Pictorial History of the town of Saline

Bruce Evans provided the pictures for the town of Saline from 1904-1945. These are definitely a treasure.... many thanks, Bruce!

Carol Crowell Hurley sent scanned pages from " Explorers and Travellers, Men of Achievement", by
General A.W. Greely, USA. Copyright dated 1894. Carol had rescued this book from the town dump in the recycle book trailer in New England.

Now ONLINE! The 1810 Census Images.

Originally, Bienville Parish was a part of the Territory of Orleans, then it was known as the Catholic Parish of St. Francis. In 1805 it became part of Natchitoches County which was changed to Natchitoches Parish in 1807. In 1828 old Natchitoches was divided and portions of it (including present Bienville Parish)became Claiborne Parish. In 1848 the lower part of Claiborne became Bienville Parish, it being named in honor of the
"Father of Louisiana", Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Bienville.
Legislative Act 183, creating Bienville Parish, was enacted during the administration of Governor Isaac Johnson.

This is the first census for Bienville Parish, which was created from Claiborne Parish in 1848. Prior to the 1850 census, you will have to research Claiborne Parish census of 1840.

The 1850 census is also the first United States census listing all members of a household by name and giving their place of birth. It also gives value in real estate, value in personal estate, year married, year in school, if able to read or write, enumeration date and remarks. All of the categories are not included here, as you will see. If you find your ancestor, please go to the original microfilm records for the rest of the information. This will also provide a chance to check the information you find here.

There is no 1860 census for Bienville Parish, which was either lost or destroyed.
