2. JOSHUA4 WILLIAMS (WILLIAM3, UNK2, WILLIAM1 WILLIAMS) was born in Prince William Co. Va. He married SARAH.
Child of JOSHUA WILLIAMS and SARAH is:
i.
ELIZABETH5 WILLIAMS.
3. EDWARD4 WILLIAMS (WILLIAM3, UNK2, WILLIAM1 WILLIAMS) was born 21 Oct 1731 in prince william co , va, and died 04 Sep 1804 in Montgomery, KY, USA. He married JEMIMA CARTER ANDERSON 1762 in prince william co va, daughter of WILLIAM CARTER and SARAH MUSE. She was born 1742 in VA, USA, and died in Warren, MO, USA.
Notes for EDWARD WILLIAMS:
WILLIAM WILLIAMS of Westmoreland County VA had siblings EDWARD,
JOSHUA & ANN (proven by EDWARD’S 1733 Westmoreland County VA will).
Their parents are unknown at this time. WILLIAM WILLIAMS was b.
c1700 (guesstimate) unknown location at this time. WILLIAM WILLIAMS
m. [ ? ] PROB Westmoreland County VA at some time BEF 1733
(daughter ELIZABETH b. BEF 1733). There were probably other children
born after ELIZABETH & before their son EDWARD b. 1738 but they
are unknown at this time. KNOWN children are ELIZABETH, EDWARD &
SUSANNAH.
EDWARD WILLIAMS (heir-at-law) s/o WILLIAM WILLIAMS of Westmoreland
was b. 1738 (he was [in sworn deposition] 58 years old in 1796) in
PROB Westmoreland VA. The WILLIAM WILLIAMS family removed from
Westmoreland County VA to Prince William County VA c1740 where
WILLIAM WILLIAMS & his brother-in-law RICHARD HAZELRIGG (husband of
ANN WILLIAMS) of Westmoreland County VA purchased land together in
1741 (deed of sale of this PW land by his son EDWARD heir-at-law &
JEMIMAH WILLIAMS in 1771). WILLIAM WILLIAMS died BEF 1754 in Prince
William County
VA leaving two MINOR children EDWARD WILLIAMS
b.
1738
& SUSANNAH WILLIAMS who CHOSE their own guardian
JOHN
ANDERSON (1754 PW guardianship bond). Child ELIZABETH WILLIAMS was
assumed to be either married or an adult.
EDWARD WILLIAMS b. 1738 voted in 1761 Prince William County VA. It
is supposition based on strong circumstantials that EDWARD WILLIAMS
b. 1738
PROB Westmoreland County VA married ABT 1762 in Prince
William County VA
to JEMIMAH PROB
CARTER b. c1742 PROB Prince
William County VA d/o [ ? ] CARTER & SARAH MUSE MUSE of Prince
William County VA (JEMIMAH [CARTER] WILLIAMS was named in her mother
SARAH MUSE MUSE CARTER THORN WILSON’S will). William Thorn of Prince
William County VA was JEMIMAH CARTER WILLIAMS’ stepfather.
EDWARD & JEMIMAH PROB CARTER WILLIAMS had a son DANIEL WILLIAMS (1804
deposition) b. 31 March 1763 (born NO other claimed year than
1763) PROB Prince William County VA (since THAT is where his
parents EDWARD & JEMIMAH were in 1763...I use PROB for location only
because there is no birth certificate, Bible record or any other
KNOWN proof for DANIEL b. 31 March 1763 s/o EDWARD & JEMIMAH’S
birth ANYWHERE but it is KNOWN that he was BORN where his PARENTS
were...and they were KNOWN to be IN Prince William County VA AT THE
LEAST between 1761 & 1776). DANIEL WILLIAMS’ headstone at Old Caney
Cemetery Floyd County KY claims that he was 57 years 4 months 0
days old when he died 31 July 1820 in FLOYD COUNTY KY. DANIEL
WILLIAMS of FLOYD COUNTY KY never set foot in MORGAN County KY...it
was formed 1822 AFTER his death...altho the cemetery where he & his
wife VIOLET COUCH (d. 1830 Morgan County KY) are buried is, since
1822, in Morgan County KY).
EDWARD WILLIAMS is documented in Prince William County VA until at least 1776...records show he came to Boonesborough on the Caintuck River in the Spring 1779 (no earlier...sworn deposition) and while it is unknown whether JEMIMAH (his ONE & ONLY KNOWN wife) & the rest of his family came with him at first it IS known that his entire family lived below Boonesborough for about 2 ½ years before settling on their 400 acre preemption on Lulbegrud Creek (in what became CLARK, then MONTGOMERY Counties KY).
EDWARD WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud Creek Montgomery County KY was never
THOMAS Edward WILLIAMS b. 17 October 1731 Chester County PA or
THOMAS Edward Williams of ANYWHERE else. The claim that EDWARD
WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud was married to (2) Jemimah Anderson in
Boonesborough was based on one partially flawed biography written
by Missouri descendants of CALEB C. WILLIAMS s/o EDWARD & JEMIMAH
PROB CARTER WILLIAMS long after CALEB C. WILLIAMS was deceased...and
there is NO PROOF for it. To the best of MY knowledge EDWARD WILLIAMS
b. 1738 PROB Westmoreland County VA s/o WILLIAM & [ ? ] WILLIAMS
of Westmoreland was NEVER married to a Jamima Anderson d/o a
John Anderson b. c1715 Bedford England. There is also NO PROOF for
that. That EDWARD WILLIAMS was married to a JEMIMAH is documented
in VA & KY. The circumstantials of place, time, location say that
woman was JEMIMAH CARTER. As an aside, JEMIMAH PROB CARTER
WILLIAMS’
name was ALWAYS spelled JEMIMAH with an “h” at the
end.
The STB
children of EDWARD & JEMIMAH PROB CARTER WILLIAMS were:
DANIEL; JOSHUA; PENELOPE; CALEB C.; CASPER (no known info on this
child); SUSANNAH and PROB WINIFRED “Winnie” WILLIAMS...there may BE
more...if there are they are unknown at this time. There is NO KNOWN
proof that SUSANNAH WILLIAMS was born at Fort Boonesborough....nor is
it KNOWN that she was the Susannah who m; Charles Kirby.
EDWARD & JEMIMAH PROB CARTER WILLIAMS were religious dissenters
(BAPTISTS) of modest (financial) means...records show he was indigent
when he got his 400 acre preemption on Lulbegrud (made improvements,
raised corn, qualified...paid no money) lived on Lulbegrud Creek,
farmed there, fought Indians there, was an RW Patriot there, raised
his family there, went to church there, was a deacon in the church
there, drank a little too much there, and died there on Lulbegrud
Creek in Montgomery County KY on 04 September 1804 (widely claimed
but the SOURCE is unknown at this time) leaving his widow JEMIMAH
PROB CARTER WILLIAMS living on the home plantation in Montgomery
County KY with her son CALEB C. WILLIAMS & his family. JEMIMAH
eventually moved to Floyd County KY c1811 to probably live with
another one of her children and died in PROB Morgan County KY, a
destitute widow on the County dole.
As to DANIEL & VIOLET COUCH WILLIAMS’ children...I don’t have ELIJAH WILLIAMS m. ELIZABETH PRATER as a child of DANIEL & VIOLET. Could be...I just don’t have that. Is there any proof that you know of?
Daniel & Violet’s STB son ISAAC WILLIAMS m. 25 April 1820 ELIZABETH “Betsy” LYKINS (you’re right...she was not Elizabeth Prater).
The BTB sons of Daniel & Violet are: JOHN T; THORNTON; ISAAC;
CALEB; Jas. JEREMIAH V. The KNOWN daughters of Daniel & Violet are:
NANCY;
ELIZABETH “Betsy” ; EDITH,
“Edy” ; WINIFRED “Winnie.” The
STB daughters of Daniel & Violet are: FRANCES “Frankie” and MARY
“Polly.”
There is at least one more male child, unidentified at this time.
Past claims have been made for a JOSHUA s/o Daniel & a DANIEL s/o
Daniel...it’s a work in progress.
If ANY group member wishes to ADD to or MODIFY this post...or
SUPPORT this post...or TRASH this post...go for it...I have to get
ready for my daughter’s 36th birthday dinner...(I just REALIZED today
as I was thinking about HER birthday that my oldest son who died would
have been 50 years old this month...GOOD HEAVENS...where did ALL the
years go? LSH
If you will indulge me I would like to go back to EDWARD’S land on
Lulbegrud (and Caintuck, for that matter). With the posting of the
CREECH descendant DAR application and the response to my question
about re-writing it TODAY plus DANI’S question about DUDLEY’S 100
acres, I’m not sure we’re all on the same page AND I want to be sure
that we ARE. This is my take on what was what...let’s talk about
EDWARD’S land on LULBEGRUD...and then have discussion until I, and
everyone else who is interested, am sure that I/we are on solid
ground concerning EDWARD WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud and ONLY the EDWARD
WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud.
EDWARD WILLIAMS sold his father WILLIAM’S land in PW in 1771 (lease & release). No record has been found as yet as to whether he bought other land or had land in PW after that. EDWARD WILLIAMS came to Boonesborough in 1779 (no OTHER year) with NICHOLAS ANDERSON & JOHN HARPER (who else, if any, came with them is unknown at this time).
(an enticement to draw people to settle in the wilderness) concerning
the settlement of lands in Caintuck...any new settler could come in
& claim up to 400 acres of unclaimed land by making improvements
(clear it, chop it, build a hut or cabin, plant a corn crop, mark
it, indicate by their presence that they were going to live on it
for at least one year)...this land, the settlement or pre-emption,
was obtained for a cheap price and the settler could also
purchase up to 1,000 acres which must adjoin the 400 acre
settlement/pre-emption for a higher price. In June of the year 1779
a group of about 12 to 15 men, all living at Boonesborough and
including EDWARD, NICHOLAS & JOHN, went across the Caintuck River and
up the Lulbegrud for the purpose of finding unclaimed land for their
settlement/pre-emption claims. They brought tools and were prepared to
make improvements...which they did. Yaw’ll all know that EDWARD
picked a spot across a branch from JOHN and south of NICHOLAS out
there on Lulbegrud where he cleared some land, built a cabin & fence
and planted some corn...THAT DAY. He marked this place with his
initials and the number 400 (his 400 acre settlement/preemption.
NICHOLAS & JOHN did likewise...when JOHN talked about this day he told
about EDWARD building his cabin and then he used “WE” when he was
asked if the way the land was to run or be laid out was
discussed...he said no, it wasn’t...only that it was agreed that the
branch would be the dividing line between his & EDWARD’S land and
then, because the Commonwealth’s land office had not yet been
opened in Boonesborough, he said, “...we did not know at that time
how we was to obtain the lands.” WHEN the Commonwealth’s land
office opened at Boonesborough I would imagine they were FIRST in
line to file their settlement/pre-emption claims. A commission
heard their claims & it was determined that they qualified...warrants
were issued for their pre-emptions, 400 acres each, on Lulbegrud (I
have posted these on group). There is NO evidence that EDWARD,
NICHOLAS or JOHN exercised their option to purchase the additional
1,000 acres adjoining their pre-emptions which they could have at
the same time for paying a higher price. As a matter of fact EDWARD
didn’t even pay the “cheap” price for his 400 acre pre-emption as he
was said to be indigent (as were a lot of folks who struggled to get
to Caintuck for the land). SO, that’s the first 400 acres that EDWARD
WILLIAMS, NICHOLAS ANDERSON & JOHN HARPER owned on
Lulbegrud....that’s their settlement/pre-emption which had NOTHING to
do with service in the militia or the Continental line or the RW or as
participants in the Corn Compact at Boonesborough. This
settlement/pre-emption offer of 400 acres was made to EVERYONE who
would come to the wilderness & stay on the land for at least a year.
The corn planted on their pre-emptions on the NORTH side of the river
had nothing to do with the corn they helped grow on the SOUTH side of
the river. NOW, by the description of the land this 400 acres is
where EDWARD, JEMIMAH and children settled...the HOME PLANTATION was
located right THERE. You know, there’s a map (c1804) in the
original records of the Fayette land depositions that shows on
p.814 the exact place where EDWARD, NICHOLAS & JOHN built their
cabins...I’m trying to remember who came in and swooped up those
records...a collection held where? I know it’s been posted but I
don’t, at this moment, remember where they’re held...not Filson but
somewhere else...oh, well. I have the Fayette County Kentucky
Records Vol. 1 by the Cooks which covers this time period (it does
NOT contain the map).
We KNOW by deed that EDWARD & JEMIMAH sold DANIEL 100 acres of this
400 acre settlement/pre-emption. We KNOW by the 1800 Tax List (deed
missing) that EDWARD & JEMIMAH gave/sold DUDLEY & PENELOPE 100 acres
of this pre-emption (by location of DUDLEY’S line & EDWARD’S line
described in a deed). We KNOW that EDWARD & JEMIMAH sold CALEB C.
112 acres of this settlement/pre-emption, the “home plantation,” in
1803. EDWARD died 1804. We KNOW that JOHN ANDERSON got some small
part of this settlement/pre-emption.
THAT’S the FIRST 400 acres...a settlement/pre-emption gained by the Commonwealth’s land law which offered ANY settler who came to the wilderness to SETTLE 400 acres of cheap land for risking their lives and the lives of their families to populate the wilderness.
Does anyone want to ask questions...maybe expand on the law? Make
corrections? Add anything I’ve left out? I have to go to bed...I’ll
talk about the next piece of land tomorrow. LSH

Willliams of Floyd/Morgan Counties KY. The TRUE father of Daniel Williams
b.1763 WAS the EDWARD WILLIAMS (Rev. Patriot) of Lulbegrud Creek
Montogmery County KY. These proofs are readily available to anyone seeking
the truth; they are irrefutable and prove beyond a doubt that EDWARD
WILLIAMS b. c1740 (from one DAR Application...circa date used only as a
guideline since the DAR information on Edward Williams is based on empty
air in several cases) PROB VA d. 1804 (there is a complete death date
widely claimed but I can’t use it because I have not been able to
ascertain the source) in Montgomery County KY WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT the
father of our Elder Daniel Williams of Floyd/Morgan Counties KY. Our Elder
Daniel Williams b.1763 was NOT the son of UNKNOWN WILLIAMS (most often
claimed with no proof to be Thomas “Edward” Williams whose identity is
also claimed with NO proof) m. to Mary Emory m. (2) Evan Davis, Jr. (Evan
Davis, Jr & Mrs. Mary Emory Williams were the grandparents of JEFFERSON
DAVIS with whom our EDWARD WILLIAMS & his son Daniel Williams had NO
connection). The claim that Elder Daniel Williams b. 1763 of Floyd/Morgan
Counties KY was the s/o Thomas “Edward” Williams m. Mary Emory has been
proven to be completely erroneous. While EDWARD WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud is
KNOWN to be the father of Elder Daniel Williams of Floyd/Morgan, the
parents of EDWARD WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud are unknown, even tho there are
several claims which have been debunked, and there is no proof of his
origin at this time. EDWARD WILLIAMS, along with his compatriot NICHOLAS
ANDERSON who was with him until their deaths in Montgomey County KY, is
listed as a member of Chopawamsic Baptist Church Stafford County VA in
1767. Nicholas Anderson’s wife Barbara is also a member as well as a
Jemimah Williams. EDWARD WILLIAMS’ son Daniel b. 1763 would have been c4
years old in 1767. I believe (no proof) Daniel Williams was b. in VA. I
also believe his mother was Jemimah (Anderson) Williams at Chopawamsic.
The Stafford County VA records were totally destroyed during the Civil War
so I doubt any further proof on Edward Williams & Nicholas Anderson will
ever come from there. However, there is some documentation that a large
group of people from Chopawamsic Stafford County VA migrated 1769 to the
Watauga River Settlements VA (attached later to NC). Mr. James O. McKee,
Jr., known WILLIAMS Family researcher for 40+ years, believed that EDWARD
WILLIAMS came to the Kentucky Wilderness with Daniel Boone from the
Watagua Settlements NC. THIS statement may be true...however, the records
of the Wataugan settlers from Virginia were mostly destroyed prior to the
annexation to North Carolina. Kentucky records, as you posted and others,
show that EDWARD WILLIAMS came to the Kentucky Wilderness in 1779. In
Daniel Boones’s timeline it is stated that he did bring a large group of
settlers through the Cumberland Gap on the Wilderness Trail from the
Watauga Settlements in 1779. There is no compiled list of the names of
these settlers but most have been included on a list of Early Settlers of
Boonesborough (now Madison County KY) (NOT to be confused with the
BUILDERS of Fort Boonesborough). EDWARD WILLIAMS, Nicholas Anderson, John
Harper & his brother Peter, ALL from Chopawamsic, are on that list. EDWARD
WILLIAMS lived about two years at Boonesborough before settling at
Anderson’s Station on Hinkston Lulbegrud next to Nicholas Anderson and
across the creek from John Harper. I have no doubt in my mind that EDWARD
WILLIAMS at Chopawamsic was EDWARD WILLIAMS at Lulbegrud...and EDWARD
WILLIAMS at Lulbegrud was the father of ELDER DANIEL WILLIAMS as well as
Caleb C. Williams, Josuha Williams, Penelope Williams, Casper? Williams &
Susannah. Daniel’s father EDWARD WILLIAMS was documented alive in 1804
Montgomery County KY. He died 1804 in Montgomery County KY. Elder Daniel
Williams’ father was NOT the erroneously claimed “in stone” Thomas
“Edward” Williams who it is claimed m. Mary Emory who had two Williams
sons Isaac & Daniel. The Widow Mary Emory Williams’ first husband UNPROVEN
WILLIAMS but claimed-to-be Thomas Edward Williams is said to have DIED
c1754 in PA...Widow Mary Emory Williams m. c1755 (2) Evan DAVIS, Jr. s/o
Evan, Sr. The Elder Daniel Williams’ (NOT the son of Mary Emory Williams)
FATHER Edward Williams of Lulbegrud lived 50 years beyond the death of the
first husband of Mary Emory Williams. The Elder Daniel Williams’ FATHER
Edward Williams DIED 1804 in Montgomery County KY.
EDWARD WILLIAMS s/o WILLIAM WILLIAMS & [ ? ] of Westmoreland County
VA
was born c1738/40 in either Westmoreland or Prince William
County
VA. He PROB married JEMIMAH PROB CARTER in c1762 in
Prince
William County VA and son DANIEL WILLIAMS was b. 1763 in PROB
Prince William County VA.
EDWARD WILLIAMS, NICHOLAS ANDERSON & JOHN HARPER signed the Occoquan
Baptist Church Dettingen Parish Prince William County VA 1776
Freedom of Religion petition with their OWN signatures. EDWARD
WILLIAMS, NICHOLAS ANDERSON & JOHN HARPER migrated to the Virginia
wilderness on the Caintuck River and were at Boonesborough by
Spring of 1779. I have no objection to the claim that EDWARD
WILLIAMS came “with” DANIEL BOONE but ONLY in 1779 with the “great
migration” and ONLY if the claim says THEY, EDWARD WILLIAMS, NICHOLAS
ANDERSON & JOHN HARPER of Prince William County VA came together.
It is possible that THEY did come from the Watauga Settlements with
the large group of settlers led by DANIEL BOONE in 1779
(NICHOLAS’ cousin PRESLEY ANDERSON has been documented as having
come with his family in the “great migration of 1779”) but there’s NO
proof for EDWARD, NICHOLAS & JOHN coming from the Watauga Settlements
of which I am aware at this time...EDWARD WILLIAMS was NOT from North
Carolina nor is there ANY documented proof that he married a
“Jemimah Anderson
at Boonesborough” (and
JEMIMAH m. EDWARD
certainly
was NOT the daughter
of Major John “Jack” ANDERSON s/o
Presley & Elizabeth Steel ANDERSON)...to the contrary, EDWARD
WILLIAMS was PROB married c1762 to JEMIMAH (PROB CARTER) b. c1742
d/o [ ? ] & SARAH MUSE MUSE CARTER in PROB Prince William County VA
before the birth of DANIEL WILLIAMS b. 1763 PROB Prince William County
VA.
It is indicative of the errors made on the early EDWARD WILLIAMS research when this book/document claims that EDWARD WILLIAMS was married to JEMIMAH ANDERSON at Boonesborough after 1779 on the one hand...and claims just below it that EDWARD WILLIAMS & his wife JEMIMAH WILLIAMS were at Chopawamsic in 1767 on the other hand.
I KNOW that EDWARD WILLIAMS & his wife JEMIMAH PROB CARTER were at
Chopawamsic Baptist Church Chopawamsic Creek in Stafford County
VA in 1767...however, it is MY belief based on proofs that EDWARD &
JEMIMAH PROB CARTER WILLIAMS were LIVING in Dettingen Parish Prince
William County
VA (across the Creek) on the land EDWARD’S deceased
father WILLIAM
WILLIAMS of
Westmoreland purchased in PW 1741, not
LIVING IN Stafford County...we have researched these folks on the
Chopawamsic Church records for several years now...all of that is in
our message archives...<BigGrin>...
TOM, what is that word in the paragraph “Williams’ 400-acre
preemption was surveyed by James French in 1783 and a grant was
issued in 1784. The depositions refer to Williams’ ‘poor right,’
indicating that he qualified as an... WHAT?...it says “4ent.” WHAT is
4ent?..and did not have to pay for his preemption.” My understanding
is that he earned his 400 acre preemption by marking his claim,
erecting a cabin & planting a corn crop in 1779.
Also, please NOTE that DANIEL WILLIAMS s/o EDWARD and DUDLEY CURLE
son-in-law of EDWARD were named as two “disintrusted” (I trust they
MEANT “disinterested”) inhabitants of said county Clark were present
when the depositions were taken at NICHOLAS ANDERSON’S
property...1796...along with NICHOLAS ANDERSON and witnesses EDWARD
WILLIAMS,
JOHN HARPER, JAMES
FRENCH & ABIHU ANDERSON s/o
NICHOLAS....signed by our “good friend” Jilson
UPDATE: Recent research in Virginia has uncovered records which lead the EAST KENTUCKY WILLIAMS’ research group to believe that EDWARD WILLIAMS of Dettingen Parish Prince William County VA was married ONCE prior to 1763 to JEMIMAH CARTER d/o UNKNOWN CARTER & SARAH MUSE MUSE CARTER THORN WILSON and NOT JEMIMAH “ANDERSON” as has been claimed (not proven) for years. We find NO evidence that EDWARD WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud b. c1740 PROB Cople Parish Westmoreland County VA d. 1804 Montgomery County KY was EVER married more than ONCE and that was to JEMIMAH PROB CARTER of Prince William County VA. Their son DANIEL WILLIAMS was born 1763 PROB Prince William County VA. We believe that EDWARD WILLIAMS was the s/o WILLIAM WILLIAMS of Westmoreland County VA & UNKNOWN UNKNOWN who removed to Prince William County VA PRIOR to 1742. We have found records that place EDWARD WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud in Prince William County VA as late as 1776. He removed to Boonesborough in what is now Kentucky in 1779. This EDWARD WILLIAMS of Lulbegrud is claimed to be the father of PENELOPE WILLIAMS m. DUDLEY CURL(E). This WILLIAMS research is VERY active & on-going. Lee Strohm Harrell
Notes for JEMIMA CARTER ANDERSON:
Jemima Williams and husband Edward Williams leased 207 acres in Prince William
Co., VA, in Feb. 1771/72. She was not named in the abstract of her mother’s
1782 will that was sent to Elmer Thorn by Donald L. Wilson, Librarian, of the
Prince William Public Library System on Mar. 16, 2005. However, “Jemimah
Williams” WAS named in the full transcription of her mother’s will that Jake
Thorn and Elmer Thorn kindly sent me.

Well, I went to the FHC today and filled in some of the dates and
uploaded a file which covers part of 1752 and 1753. I got somewhat
side-tracked today with the 1754 and 1755 stuff and didn’t have time
to finish up with the earlier. I’ll be adding to the file I uploaded
on my computer and keep replacing the file here with a newer version
whenever I update. I did not put pages 6 & 7 which I transcribed in
an earlier post but will update it in the next batch. The correct
date for that (suit between Thomas Brown & Richard Hazelrig where
Nicholas Anderson & Elizabeth Anderson were witnesses) was 28 May 1752.
I looked up the guardian stuff for Edward & Susannah. This is the
transcript:
Edward and Susanna Williams orphans of William Williams deced [sic]
made choice of John anderson for their Guardian who with John Metcalf
William Baylis and Thomas Machen Enter into bond. [26 Nov 1754]
Not anything more than we knew. I did go through all the Williams
listed in the index prior to this hoping to see something regarding
William’s estate—even the appointing of an administrator if he died
intestate but there was nothing.
I looked up the stuff about the cloth suit and Thomas Anderson is
listed first: Thomas Anderson having attended one day as a witness
for richard Grigsly against Aaron Chamblin Ordered that the said
Richard do pay him for the same according to Law. Jemima Anderson was
listed next and Mary Anderson following her. Now, are they all young
people (males can testify at 14 and females at 12) or is Thomas
married to Jemima and Mary is their daughter, or vice versa??? That’s
the question. I found Jemima previously as “an Evidence” for Richard
Grigsby in the same suit but that was dated 27 Mar 1754. I’ll have to
go back and look through the page and see if Thomas or Mary was there.
Maybe she went once and then came back. Still have a lot to go
through on this section as well as finishing up the other section.
There was a Chandler CARTER orphan of William CARTER deceased, who was
bound to a Solomon Jones to learn the trade of blacksmith. He was
bound by his own free and voluntary consent. This was 25 Mar 1754.
Could he be one of Sarah’s children?
There was also a lengthy (almost a full page) entry regarding a suit
between Thomas Chilton, Gent. (Plaintiff) and Nicholas Anderson on 26
Aug 1754. I have to get it printed out and transcribed. It mentions
that the defendant (Nicholas) is a tenant of Gilson Berryman of
Stafford County and apparently deals with debts owed.

Children of EDWARD WILLIAMS and JEMIMA ANDERSON are:
i. WINIFRED5 WILLIAMS.
Notes for WINIFRED WILLIAMS:
Larry, I believe Winnie is possibly the daughter of Edward Williams, my
ancestor. Since Edward’s son Daniel Williams and his son-in-law Dudley
Curle who was married to Penelope Williams are listed on the marriage
record. Winnie would be the right age also, and family accounts of her
descendants claim she was at Boonesborough very early on. Edward Williams
came to Kentucky and settled at Fort Boonesborough in 1779. He lived
outside the fort for awhile and then moved to Lulbegrud Creek area of what
became Montgomery County, formed from Clark County. I would like to know
more about where the Herring family came from. Do you know if they tie in
with the Williams family before coming to Kentucky? My email is

Mill or Hiram Brown Cemetery, Putnam Co., TN.
From the Early History of Putnam County, Tennessee , by W. S. Mcclain, 1925:
Joshua BARTLETT and wife (Winnie, nee WILLIAMS) moved from Boonesborough, KY
with their eight children about the year 1808 and built a cabin on the south
bank of Falling Water, near the location of the concrete bridge on the new
highway through there.
Later Mr. BARTLETT erected a larger and better residence (now occupied by Dudley
FARLEY) near the original cabin, which was then used for several years as a
church and school house, but was finally abandoned for a new building on the
north bank of Falling River, the site of the present Brown’s Mill Church. The
BARTLETT children were named Daniel, Nathan, Joseph, Edith, Rebecca, Dorcas,
Nancy and Penelope. Another daughter, Hester, was born in their new home in
1812, and was the grandmother of Claude BROWN, who gave us this information. Mr.
BROWN’s mother, widow of the late Hyram BROWN, now in her 87th year, remembers
clearly the details of the capture of Daniel BOONE’s daughters by the Indians,
in a raid on Boonesborough, as related by her mother. The original entry of land
by Mr. BARTLETT embraced 360 acres on Falling Water, the bottom land thickly
covered by tall cane.
