JOHNSON COUNTY HISTORICAL & GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

REGULAR QUARTERLY MEETING
SEPTEMBER 14, 1996
@10:00 AM

The meeting was called to order by President Harold L Preston in the Johnson County Library meeting room.

Minutes of June Meeting:
Since the minutes were published in the quarterly magazine they were approved without reading by a motion made by Bertha Daniels and seconded by Johnny Lemaster. The motion carried.

Treasurers Report:
Jan Horne read the Treasurers Report. A motion was made by Bertha Daniels and seconded by Johnny Lemaster to approve the report as read. The motion carried.

Nominating Committee:
Mr Preston appointed a nominating committee consisting of: James Tramel, Chairman; Burnett Music and Bertha Daniels. The Committee are to report with recommendations at the December meeting. The Board will meet on November 3.

Mr Preston informed the group that Pat Patton is concerned about our cemetery project. We need to get started working on Volume IV.

Cemetery Committee:
Mr Preston appointed James Tramel, Johnny Lemaster, Burnett Music, Pat Pelphrey and himself to the Committee.

Historical Buildings Committee:
Mr. Preston, Jim Hamilton, and Pat Pelfrey will serve on, the committee. Mr Pelfrey has interviewed Luke Wright and photographed his house., Mr Pelfrey discussed other houses and monuments he is working on.. Pat Pelfrey and Jim Hamilton will prepare an article for each quarterly. Mr Preston will provide the article for the December issue.

Program Committee:
Jan Horne, Becky Music and Harry Holbrook will serve on the program committee.

  • Mr Pelfry discussed the Jim Jayne cemetery not being in the cemetery books - several veterans buried there.
  • Mr Preston stated that it is important to locate cemeteries by waterways as there have been 3 route 23's.
  • Mr Preston and Johnny Lemaster discussed the Hitchcock and Dixon migrations.
  • Mr Preston announced that Mr Wofford will be speaking at the Big Sandy meeting at Peking restaurant at 12:00.
  • A motion was made by Harry Holbrook and seconded by Jim Hamilton to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 10:35 am.
