LIST INFORMATION
CRR is an on-line
newsletter which began in May 1997. It is a discussion area for
anyone who has an interest in genealogy AND history
related to Pulaski, Wayne, McCreary,
Whitley & Knox
Counties in SE Ky.
CRR also takes in Harlan County and Bell
County.
From this page you can:
- Subscribe to either the regular
version or the digest version
of the CRR mailing list.
- Read rules and guidelines
for the list.
- Read any special announcements
which might affect the list to that listmembers might
have an interest in.
- Email the Listowner.
For those new to on-line genealogy,
subscribing to a "List" simply means that you are
signing on to receive and send email as a member of a group
concentrating on one particular subject or area of interest.
When you subscribe to the CRR List you
will receive copies of all messages posted by the members of this
group. You may also post your own messages which will be seen by
all members of this group.
There are two version from which you may
choose;
- "Regular Mode"
means that you will receive a copy of each individual
message as it is posted. Messages will arrive at your
mailbox individually.
- "Digest Mode"
means that you will receive a copy of each message but
they will arrive at your mailbox altogether, once a day.
The choice is yours, it is simply a
matter of preference.
If you wish to change from one mode
to the other you must FIRST unsubscribe from the one that you are
presently on, THEN subscribe to the other.

There is never a monetary charge to
be a member of the CRR List, though contributions to RootsWeb in
the name of the CRR List are encouraged and welcome and will help
me to keep this list alive. I pay a yearly fee to RootsWeb
for this list for all of us. All I ask of you is that you help
others and contribute to the list whenever the opportunity arises,
be kind and considerate of others, help to make genealogy on the
CRR List enjoyable, and follow the guidelines which have been put
in place as we have gone along to help keep things running
smoothly.

Please be aware that we do sometimes discuss HISTORY on
this list. This list is not now, nor has it ever been,
strictly for finding your ancestors. It is the
opinion of the creator of this list that genealogy IS
history. Discussions of things that occurred in our
nation's history are acceptable in and of themselves. The
term "History" includes ALL history; past or in-the-making,
good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant. |
- 1. Postings must be associated with
genealogy or history. Use the list and enjoy it but stick
to what it is that we set up and joined this list for --
the discussion of our roots and history of the country
and the CRR area, its people, and its history. We do NOT
discuss religion on this list. There are too many people
that get upset with that topic.
- 2. No personal messages. If your
message is NOT directed to the other 700 (daily average)
people on the list....DON'T post it to the list.
Guideline: Will others be interested? Yes? Post it. No?
Send it privately. If your message is directed to ONE
person -- send it TO that person, not to everyone
on the list.
- 3. No postings of comments to or
about other posts which don't apply to genealogy or
history...such as "me too"....or "I agree/disagree",
etc. Keep it to yourself or send it to the person
privately. Personal pot-shots will not be tolerated.
- 4. No postings of FORWARDED
messages of rumored viruses, etc. If your information is
not directly from first-hand sources -- do NOT post it to
this list. Most of these are rumors which we have all see
before.
- 5. No forwarding or copying of
privately sent messages from other people without their
explicit permission...and then ONLY if it pertains to
genealogy or history. This is a BIGGIE folks. It
is rude and tasteless to do this and won't be tolerated
on this list.
- 6. When posting a response to
another member's post, include in your message *ONLY*
what is necessary to show what it is you are responding
to. Use you *CUT* option...cut off all unncessary
headers, trailers, and repeats. Some of the stuff coming
through the list is FAR TOO LONG simply because it is
repeated over and over.
- 7. No posting of "inspirational"
or "cute" stuff that doesn't pertain to our
subject matter.
- 8. IT IS ALRIGHT to tell the list
that you have a particular genealogy or history book /
other *related* item you are offering for sale. It is
alright to pass on knowledge of such materials that are
for sale somewhere else. It is NOT alright however to use
the list for profit-related purposes, advertisement,
promotion of your personal future endeavors, etc. You may
not use the list to solicit data for profit-making
ventures. Posts to promote donations for keeping Roots-Web
going ARE permissable.
- 9. If you need a specific Look-up,
please try to check the look-up page on the CRR website
first to see if we have a volunteer that covers that.
It is FINE to ask for a look-up on the list for something
that is not covered or if you don't know where to look,
but don't send your look-up request to the list if you
KNOW who to ask for it...send it directly to that person.
- 10. Got a complaint? Need to gripe
about something? I would rather hear about it from you DIRECTLY,
as opposed to reading about it on the list. Email ME
-- NOT everyone on the list. And one more thing --
Please don't use this list as an avenue for flaming other
people EVEN BY PRIVATE EMAIL. If you RECEIVE
a flaming or offensive message from another member of
this list, send it straight to me. Do NOT reply to it!!
I will do my best to try to help. It rarely comes to this
-- but please be aware that if matters warrant....I
will remove and block an address without warning to the
offending subscriber.
- Complaints should ONLY be made by
private e.mail to the List-owner. The List-owner will
take appropriate action with regard to the complaint.
You may email me, the Listowner, [Margy]
anytime with any questions or for help with anything pertaining
to the list. I cannot do genealogical research for you, but I
will do what I can to help you at any time that I can.
I do not sit at my computer full-time
and I cannot watch every message that comes through the list as
it comes through. Sometimes I may be away for a couple of days
even, but I DO keep a watchful eye on the list and I will
see everything that is happening, though it may not be
immediately. I tell you this as I don't want you to become
concerned if you don't see me step in immediately when there is
something going on that you feel needs my attention.
We at CRR welcome you to our group. We
want you to feel at home here. Enjoy and happy roots-diggin!
