Martin Luther and Rachel Hissem

Martin Luther Hissem was born May 3, 1845 in Russell Mills, Tyler County, Virginia to Levi and Elisabeth (Morgan) Hissem.  Levi was born April 30, 1816 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, to Jesse Hissem born about 1790 in Maryland. Jesse died in Meigs County Ohio in 1872.  Jesse' father was Martin Hissem, who came to America from Holland and served in the Revolutionary War.

Martin Luther married Rachel Galloway who was born October 11, 1844, daughter of Jacob T and Martha Galloway.  Levi  and his son Martin Luther left Tyler County and moved to Campbell County in 1870.  Levi Hissem died in California Ky. March 22, 1891, and his wife Elizabeth H Hissem died in California, Ky. April 17, 1901. Levi and Elizabeth farmed and operated a store in California where all the children worked.

William Jackson Hissem attended a business school in Cincinnati. He ran and was elected a state senator, a Campbell County Judge, and assistant Post Master in Newport.  William and his wife Nettie M Pickens were married in 1887.  They left Campbell County in 1908 to serve as representatives of an eastern publishing house in the state of California.  They then moved to Kansas City where Nettie died March 19, 1928.  William died there Aug 11, 1952.
