Davis Email address: oldthing@juno.com and Gary Kempf "On April 7, 1998", ATHS member Gary Kempf wrote, "I was notified by Fort Knox Range Division that SSG Cory Kozielski of Range Control had located an unrecorded cemetery. SSG Kozielski noted from the inscribed gravestones that buried in the cemetery were Dudley, Damon, Elizabeth and J.V. Davis as well as others." Kempf was escorted to the cemetery by Kozielski on April 8th, accompanied by SSG Juan Gonzalez, and SFC Jay Christman. The cemetery was in a remote area of the reservation, atop a ridge overlooking a deep valley. Prior to the purchase of this land by Camp Knox in 1918 the settlement of Pleasant View (aka Wigginton) existed on the Louisville-Nashville Turnpike. The new cemetery now known as the Davis Cemetery (#119), would have been about 1 1/2 southeast of this village and the Pleasant View Baptist Church cemetery (#74). This particular piece of property was part of a 74 acre farm purchased from R.B. Stith in 1918. The cemetery is about 50 x 75 meters and had 11 inscribed monuments and 20 uninscribed stones. The cemetery, with burials dating back to 1859, was in remarkable good shape. Known to be buried in the cemetery with inscribed monuments: Jane Pedigo, wife of J.S. Jan 18,1817 - Mar 12,1876. Jane is the mother of Anna Matilda Pedigo Davis Janey Davis, daughter of J.V. & A.M. Mar 12, 1876 - Aug 7, 1878 J.(Junius) V. Davis Feb 27, 1848 - Mar 2, 1890 Clarence V. Davis, son of J.V. and A.M. Jan 20,1878 - Oct 17, 1894 Damon J. Davis, son of J.J. and A.M. Jan 9, 1902 - Dec 27, 1906 Dudley Davis, son of J.J. and A.M. Apr 1, 1898 - Aug 19, 1914 A.M. is Anna Matilda Pedigo Davis (twice a Davis) and her second husband John J. Davis is buried in the Bethany Cemetery on Dixie Highway in Valley Station, Kentucky. Ann, the daughter of Jesse Pedigo and Virginia Richardson, was married to Junius on Sept 12, 1872 at her father's house in Hardin County. Ancestry Of The Pedigo Family The Pedigos are of French decent and got on the Land Waiting List to come to America as Bond servants. Three boys (ages 9 to 11 years old). They came into Tennessee and then into Kentucky. One of the Pedigo boys married a Cherokee Indian maiden. One of the Pedigo's today lives on Cherokee street in Radcliff, Kentucky.
