Inscriptions from the Pleasant Hill (sometimes called Puderbaugh) Cemetery, located about one mile west of Ozawkie, Kansas, off of K-92 Hwy. This inscription list is from the 1934, and should be complete. Note that Mr. Niccum's report says "two miles west." Well, the town of Ozawkie was moved in the 1960s about one mile west of the former location due to the building of Perry Lake. Also, the State Bank of Ozawkie no longer exists.
There are no burials in this cemetery now, and all of the stones were destroyed by cattle getting out into the cemetery around 1990.
Here's the 1934 report:
There is a cemetery situated on the farm of Carl Puderbaugh about two miles west of Ozawkie, Ozawkie Township. Judging by a Marker tombstone, it was used as such as early as October 11, 1862. Although very seldom used any more, this cemetery is kept in good condition. The State Bank of Ozawkie would have information on records thereof, if any be kept. Obituary notices of those interred here may, perhaps, be found in the files of the "Oskaloosa Independent," or other papers published in this county, to be seen at the Kansas State Historical Society, Topeka, Kansas.

FOOTNOTE: By Richard Wellman
I have been checking the burial records maintained by the Jefferson Co. Gen. Soc. against the records that Julie submitted from the 1934 list of burials at Pleasant Hill (Puderbaugh). There was additional information, particularly of parents, contained in the 1934 list. However, there were two additional burials from the Gen. Soc. records, that are reportedly buried at Pleasant Hill (Puderbaugh) Cem.
They are:
Cunning, Mabel, b. 27 Jul 1892, d. 27 Jul 1892 dau. of Isaac & Martha E. (Watson) Cunning
Metzger, Eli W., b. 25 Jun 1844, d. 25 Jun 1885, hus. of Margaret E. (Jones) Metzger.
It is also interesting to note that there were only 4 burials since 1900 in the cemetery.
1. Root, Andrew d. 17 Dec. 1903 (Note: He was joining wife who had died in 1864)
2. Keener, Nancy (Currant) d. 10 Dec. 1904 (Note: She was joining hus. James who d. 1876)
3. Marker, Sarah (Royer) d. 8 May 1925 (Note: She was joining husband who had died in 1876)
4. Brown, Sarah (Root) d. 2 Jul. 1932 (Note: Her husband, S(amuel) H. Brown, died in 1895.
There are two entries for his burial, one in Pleasant Hill and one in Ozawkie Cem. Because, Sarah was buried in Pleasnat Hill, it is very likely his reported burial in Ozawkie is incorrect.)
