Retired Hesston Corp. employee Franz Altenhofen, 70, Augusta, died Saturday, March 23, at HCA Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Dunsford Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, Father James Billinger officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
Altenhofen was born July 22, 1920, in Ayl, Germany, to Barbara Altenhofen and Nikolaus Altenhofen. On November 14, 1946, he married Franziska Lutz-Schuh.
Survivors include his wife, Franziska; two sons, Joe and Gary, both of Augusta; two daughters, Betty Mitchell and Sue Benton, both of Augusta; a brother, Joseph of Ayl, Germany; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.

JOSE ARREDONDO DIED SUNDAY
JOSE ARREDONDO, 65, 1239 Hooper, died Sunday at his home.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. The rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Monsignor Charles F. Walsh will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
He was born March 19, 1919 in Pueblo, Mexico, to Candelario and Fransica Jimenz Arredondo.
He married Mary Valadez Sept. 13, 1947 in El Dorado. She survives.
He was a retired maintenance person for the Santa Fe Railway.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Other survivors include sons, Joe Jr., John, both of Augusta; daughters, Delores Burrows of Towanda; half brothers, Jesse, Toney, both of Fontana, Calif.; sister, Rosa Gallegos of Chicago, Ill., and five grandchildren.

BARDOT ROSARY TONIGHT AT FUNERAL HOME HERE
JAMES EDWIN BARDOT, 83, of Augusta, died Saturday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
A rosary will be held tonight in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel beginning at 7.
Services for the retired Boeing Military Airplanes worker will be 12 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church with Fa. Jim Billinger officiating. Burial will follow the services at Calvary Cemetery.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1905 in Salisbury, Mo. To Fred and Katherine Bardot.
On Nov. 7, 1933 he was united in marriage to Helen Ruth Ponder in Salisbury.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; son, Jerry of Wichita; daughters, Mary R. Evans of Independence, Mo., Shirley A. Malan of Beaumont, Texas; sisters, Ruth Fuenfausen of Salisbury, Irene Schroeder of St. Ann, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
Memorials are to the St. James Catholic Church in Augusta.

FUNERAL SERVICE FOR “TONY” BERNDSEN TOMORROW
ANTON E. “TONY” BERNSDEN, 71, Route 2, died Saturday, May 15, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, at St. James Catholic Church. Father David Cushing will officiate and burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
A rosary will be said at 7:30 o’clock tonight at St. James Church.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Nov. 17, 1910 in Andale to Joseph and Theresa Horsch Berndsen.
He married Catherine Betzer Aug. 10, 1939 in Augusta. She survives.
He moved from Andale to this area in 1939. He was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Other survivors include two sons, David Berndsen and Timothy Berndsen, both of Augusta; two daughters, Dianne Coiner and Debbie Weaver, both of Wichita; three brothers, Willie Berndsen, Omaha, Neb., Manuel Berndsen, Santa Susannah, Calif., and Eugene Berndsen, Wichita; four sisters, Edna Rogers, Naomi Bauer, Irene Casey and Agnes West, all of Wichita, and 12 grandchildren.

CECIL ANTHONY BUSCH, 91, Route 2, died Saturday at Longton.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the St. James Catholic Church. Father Thomas Stroot will officiate and burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the St. James Catholic Church.
He was born Sept. 7, 1894 in Udall to Michael A. and Anna Bently Busch.
Busch married Emma Pearl Ashworth Dec. 30, 1918 in Wellington. She preceded him in death in 1982.
He was a farmer.
Survivors include sons, John and Lawrence “Larry” of Augusta; daughters, Ruth Manning of Augusta, Lois Hagebusch of Toronto and Emma Noland of Longton; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

EMMA PEARL BUSCH, 83, Route 2, died Monday, Nov. 8, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at St. James Catholic Church here. Father David Cushing will officiate and burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 7, 1899 in Cowley County to Thomas A. and Bertie Leo York Ashworth.
She married Cecil Anthony Busch Dec. 30, 1918 in Wellington. He survives.
Other survivors include sons, John Busch and Larry Busch, both of Augusta; daughters, Emma Noland of Longton, Ruth Manning and Lois Hagebusch, both of Augusta, and Bernice Spivey of Leon; a brother, Albert Ashworth of Wichita; a sister, Jessie M. Slater of Wichita; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

COLGAN SERVICE HELD WEDNESDAY
Frank Colgan, aged 83, died February 24 in Wichita – St. Joseph’s hospital. He had been in poor health for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. James Catholic church with Fr. C. Edward Pfirman in charge. The Rosary will be recited at Dunsford’s chapel Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Colgan was born June 28, 1873 in Stark County, Ill. He was the son of Ann Feron Colgan and Thomas Colgan. He was married to Martha Kelly who died in 1905. Surviving sons are Tom and Francis of Augusta and Joe of Wisconsin. There are two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Colgan came to this county in 1895 from Illinois. He was a member of St. James Catholic church.

JOSEPH CULHANE DIES TODAY
Joseph Thomas Culhane, 65, of near Benton, died at 4 a.m. today in the St. Francis hospital in Wichita. He is survived by a widow; two sons, Leo and Francis of Benton; and a sister, Mrs. Stephen Lehr of Augusta.
Mr. Culhane was born May 29, 1876, in Franklin, Pa., the son of John and Ellen Culhane.
Funeral services will be held at the St. James Catholic church, the time to be announced later. Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge.

FORMER RESIDENT OF BENTON DIES
MRS. MARY ANN CULHANE, 79, Wichita, died Thursday at St. Francis hospital. She moved to Wichita 12 years ago from Benton.
Mrs. Culhane was born Nov. 6, 1881, at Wyoming, Ill. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church and St. Joseph’s Altar society.
Survivors include two sons, J. Leo, of the home, and J. Francis, Wichita, two brothers, J.L. Marnane, and D.R. Marnane, both of Wichita, and five grandchildren.
Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary of Wichita has charge of arrangements. They will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Catholic church with burial in Calvary cemetery, Augusta. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Flanagan-Hunt mortuary.

DAVIS FUNERAL AT ST. JAMES
CECILIA ALICE DAVIS, 88, of Cherry Creek Village Nursing Home in Wichita, died early Saturday morning.
Her services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic church with Rev. Jim Billinger officiating and burial will be in the Calvary cemetery.
She was born to William and Katherine Flarity on June 29, 1901 in Edgerton, Wis.
On May 8, 1920 she married Durrel Hiram Davis in Edgerton. He preceded her in death in 1956.
The former owner of the drive-in theatre at Yates Center is survived by her daughter, Joan Hassel of Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

SERVICES ON THURSDAY FOR CHARLES DEARING
Funeral services for Charles B. Dearing, 235 Walnut Street, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic church with Father C.E. Pfirman officiating. He died at his home yesterday at the age of 78 after an illness of one year.
Mr. Dearing had resided in Butler county since 1920. He was born Jan. 7, 1883 at Arcadia, Kans., the son of Nancy E. Bixler Dearing and James Dearing. He was married to Jane Marie Webb July 18, 1918 at Girard, Kans. She survives.
The following children survive: Mrs. Maxine E. Lackey, Rose Hill; Mrs. Charlene Thompson, Augusta; Mrs. Patricia Morris, Tucumcari, N.M.; and Robert E. Dearing, White Bluff, Tenn. Other survivors are three brothers, John of Seiling, Okla., Roy of Ft. Scott, N.W. of Sedalia, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Johnston, Ft. Scott and Mrs. Minnie Phillips, Altamont; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Dearing resided in Arma, Kans., before moving to Butler county. He had served as custodian at the Elks Club. He was a member of St. James Catholic church and B.P.O.E. No. 1462.
