Births

State law authorizes the issuance of certified copies of vital records. Uncertified copies or verifications are not provided to the public.

State law also specifies that the initial $12.00 fee for a certified birth certificate copy is a five-year record search fee – one certified copy is issued if the record is found and if not found, the fee is retained. You will receive either the certified copy or a letter explaining the search conducted and that no record was located.

Birth certificates began being filed at the State level on July 1, 1911. The Kansas State Office of Vital Statistics has six methods available for making a request for a birth certificate: regular mail, priority mail, telephone, fax, internet, and walk-in customer service. Between about 1885 and July 1, 1911 births may have been recorded at the county or city clerk's office in register volumes. Not all of these registers have survived. To inquire about information and fees contact:
