CLOONACOOL, KILCUMMIN GRAVEYARD
Kilcummin, the chief burial ground of Cloonacool, contains an area of about 120 feet square-enclosed by a good stone and mortar wall-and lies in the valley of the Moy, at the foot of the Ox mountain, in a townland of the same name. The graveyard is crowded, and has a fair number of tombstones, on which the prevailing 19th century names were:
GRAY. HENRY, BRENNAN, HIBBERT, McHUGH, and McGLOIN.
Rev. Patrick Henry, Parish Priest from 1806 to 1815.
Visitors to graveyards should not clean gravestones. The best time to view headstones is at low light, early or late in the day and during winter when growth of weeds is restricted. A full record of gravestone inscriptions can be viewed in the Sligo County Library. In addition the desired information can be purchased from the Sligo Heritage & Genealogical Centre (online).
