The county of Kilkenny is bordered on the south by the River Suir,
and on the south-east by the River Barrow. The south-western border
follows the Linguan River from near Carrick-on-Suir to around the
megalithic tomb near Knockroe. The western border of the county follows a
portion of the King's River and one of its tributaries for a few
miles, just west of Callan, before picking up the Munster River and
following it into the Slieveardagh Hills. Although much of the northern
border of the county does not follow along the line of rivers, a short
portion of the northern border follows the Owenbeg River just
north-east of its junction with the River Nore, a river which
bisects the county from north-to-south. Part of the north-eastern border
follows tributaries of the River Dinin for a time until this river
joins with the River Coolcullen, a few miles south-east of
Castlecomer, a town which has a branch of the Dinin flowing through it.
The border follows the Coolcullen for just a couple of miles.
The county border picks up tributaries of the Barrow and the Acore rivers
for a time just west of Baganelstown in county Carlow, before it veers off
to join the Barrow River again south-east of Paulstown.
Other rivers in county Kilkenny include the the Black Water River which flows south through Mullinavat and Kilmacow; the Pollanassa and the Derrylacky rivers which join the Black Water near the town of Mullinavat; the Arrigle River which flows north and joins the River Nore near Ballyduff; the Douske River which flows through Graiguenamanagh; the Clodiagh River which flows down from Brandon Hill; the Clogh River which flows southward near the village of Clogh and into the river Dinin; the Monefelim River which flows south joining the Acore River just northwest of Goresbridge; the Douglas River which flows west, as well as the River Gloshia flowing south, both joining the River Dinin just north of Corbetstown; the Nuenna River which flows through Freshford; the Arigna River flowing through Clashacrow; the River Goul flowing north from the Urlingford area into county Laois; the Kilbride and the Owbeg rivers southwest of Callan; the River Glory flowing near Dunnamaggan and north into the King's river; the Little Arrigle flowing north by Ballyhale and Knocktopher; and the Pil River flowing through Piltown on its way into the Suir.
