SHOWERS -- WISE 12-25-97
I am researching the family of Adam SHOWERS (born 1778 in New York, died in Ripley co bef Jan 1866). He was married to Elizabeth Thurston (born 1782 in NY). They were early settlers of Dearborn co and then of Ripley co, living in Laughery twp.
Also the family of Samuel WISE (born c1785 in VA, died aft 1860 in Ripley co) and his wife ELizabeth (born 1786 in VA). They were in Ripley co by 1845, living in Laughery twp. Known children: William Wise, Charles B Wise, Tully R Wise, Parker Wise, Jonathan S Wise, George Washington Wise. I believe Samuel was a member of the Accomack co Wises who heavily used the names Tully R and George Washington in male members. The entire Wise family had an aversion to tombstones since the burial places of most members of Samuel's family is unknown.

BRUNTMYER
I am searching of additional information about my ancestors, and I need to know the best way to approach searching overseas. I started my research with the St. Paulus Evangelical Lutheran Church they attended in the southeastern IN community of Stumps Corner, which is just north of Versailles. Most all of the entries in the church records of that period (1850s to 1911) were hand written in German script, which I had translated. Part of the problem I found was the name BRUNTMYER written down a number of ways (BRANDTMEYER / BRANDMEIER / BRANDMEYER).
I have also spent a number of hours at the LDS library in Salt Lake City, UT. I found the ancestral families of (Christopher H.) in Ledde and (Caroline S. C.) in PreuBen (Oldendorf), Germany back to c.1700. I also found these communities to be in the vicinity of Osnabruck, Germany.
I have not, however, found the date (c. 1850) of their arrival in the US, nor the ship they arrived on. Christopher and Caroline must not have been married when they arrived, since I found an "Application for Marriage" in the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati, OH, for Christopher H. BRANDMEYER and Caroline S. C. BESTERT (BRANDMEYER). This application was dated 10 January 1855, however, the application was never signed and returned by the minister who married them, and the name shown at the bottom (presumed) signature block was spelled BRANDMIER.
The aforementioned church records show Christopher Heinrich Friedrick BRANDMEYER b. 20 February 1827 - Boerninghausen, Westfalen, Prussia was Christened 25 February 1827 - d. 10 February 1911 ( at cottage Cincinnati, OH), who is the one I traced to Ledde, Germany. Caroline S. C. BESTERT (BRANDMEIER) b. 10 October 1834 - Preussisch Oldendorf, Westfalen, Prussia was Christened 17 October 1834 - d. 8 October 1906, who I have traced to PreuBen (Oldendorf), Germany. The head stone in the cemetery at Stumps Corner, IN shows the spelling of the name to be BRUNTMYER.
To my best ability the following is a list of the family members (there were purported to have been thirteen but I could only find ten:

 Christopher Heinrich Friedrich Brandmeyer

Born 20 Feb 1827 - Boerninghausen, Westfalen, Prussia
        Christening 25 Feb 1827
        Died 10 Feb 1911

 Caroline S. C. (Bester) Brandmeyer/Bruntmyer
        Born 10 Oct 1834 - Preussisch Oldendorf,
                                 Westfalen, Prussia
        Christening 17 Oct 1834
        Died 8 Oct 1906
Buried Cemetery at Stumke's Corners, IN
CHILDREN: These are all of 13 that I have found

RANSOM
I am looking for descendants of my great, great, grandfather Timothy RANSOM, born 26 Jan 1800 in Vermont, moved (with his parents and some siblings) to Milan (Ripley County), Indiana in 1819/20. He married Charlotte P. Austin (b. 10 Jul 1802 d. 19 Jul 1886) 8 Aug 1822 In Ripley County, and died 16 May 1890 in Milan. Timothy and Charlotte are buried in the "RANSOM family cemetery" just north of Milan, IN (the cemetery is located 1.25 miles east on County Road 800E off of (Indiana) highway 101 at Old Milan (about .4 miles north of the intersection of highways 101 and 10 at Milan, Indiana)). Except for my line through Newman Austin RANSOM I have almost no information on any of the brothers and sisters of Newman or on his aunts and uncles in Milan. Can anyone provide any other information on this early Milan family?

Timothy and Charlotte had 10 children:
Eliza Ann RANSOM b. 29 Feb 1824 Milan, IN, d. 13 Mar 1892 m. Erasmus D(arwin?) Hathaway (m 18 Mar 1852)
Jason Kendall RANSOM b. 14 Oct 1824 Milan, IN, d. 9 Jan 1896 m. Chloe Hathaway (m 6 Nov 1851)

Catharine Sophia RANSOM b. 23 Feb 1829 Milan, IN, d. 26 Jun 1862 m. Robert G. Glaspill (or Glasfed) (m 4 Jun 1850)
Jane RANSOM b. 10 Jan 1931 Milan, IN, d. m. James Davis (m 4 Jun 1850)
Newman Austin RANSOM b. 2 Mar 1834 Milan, IN, d. 1905 Moline, Illinois m. Ester Mehitable Hebbard (m 31 Dec 1861)
Daniel RANSOM b. 17 Jan 1837 Milan, IN, d. 25 Jul 1838 - died young
Farley Hill RANSOM b. 14 May 1839 Milan, IN, d. 2 Jul 1841 - died young
William Seymour RANSOM b. 27 Apr 1841 Milan, IN, d. 1897 m. Margaret Wells (m 26 Jul 1864)
Oacar Jackson RANSOM b. 8 Apr 1845 Milan, IN

Timothy's father: Elisha RANSOM b. 27 Jul 1772 VT d. 24 Jan 1867 Milan, Ripley Co., IN Wife - Abigail Pool b. 6 Jan 1777 d. 19 Dec 1857 Milan, IN, m. abt 1793
Elisha and (and most of his?) family left VT in 1819 and wintered in Ohio, then continued to Indiana in the spring of 1820 and settled in Milan (now Old Milan).

Elisha and Abigail had eight children, all born in Vermont except the last - Benjamin - born in Milan IN.:
Abigail RANSOM b. 7 Mar 1794 Woodstock VT d. 9 May 1867 Milan, IN m. Jasper G Smith (m 17 Jan 1815)
Elisha RANSOM b. 6 Nov 1797 Woodstock VT d. 1806
Timothy RANSOM b. 26 Jan 1800 Woodstock VT d. 16 May 1890 Milan, IN m. Charlotte P. Austin (m 8 Aug 1822) (It is interesting that of the thirty-four indexed entries for AUSTINS in the Toph collection, CHARLOTTE P. AUSTIN is not mentioned - who was she?)
Joseph RANSOM b. 22 Aug 1802 Woodstock VT d. 11 Mar 1884 Pike Co, IL m. Corinthia Swift (m 10 Jan 1826 or 31 Dec 1825)
Polly RANSOM b. 8 Dec 1804 Woodstock VT d. 1812 Woodstock VT - died young
Juinia RANSOM b. 16 Apr 1808 Woodstock VT d. 1 Sep 1863 Pittsfield, IL m. Sarah Freeland (m 6 Oct 1834)
Stillman RANSOM b. 4 Mar 1811 Woodstock VT d. m. Eleanor Cole (or Chouton) (m 10 Jan 1837)
Benjamin Franklin RANSOM b. 26 Dec 1821/22 Ripley Co. IN d. 11 Feb 1901 buried in the RANSOM family cemetery, Old Milan, Ripley Co, IN. m. Elizabeth Weinkecht (m Nov 1850). She is named on the grave stone of B.F. Ransom in the Ransom family cemetery. His second marriage was to Louina J (nie DEAN) Conger, on 19 Feb 1861 Louina J Conger died on 12 Jun 1917. Children of Benjamin Franklin Ransom and Louina J Conger (mentioned in the Toph papers) were: Mark Ransom - Flora E. Ransom - Alice Ransom

Is the George Ransom mentioned in the Toph Collection the first son of B. F. Ransom?

Who is Elizabeth Ransom (mentioned in the Toph Collection): "she was born in Milan, Ind. March 12, 1827. She married Clark Wilson March 16, 1843. She died July 30, 1897. She and three sons and four daughters who preceded her in death except Josie and Hattie who lived with her until her death." Who were her parents? In the Toph Collection there is a J. J. Wilson listed as buried in the Ransom Family Cemetery. Is he related to Clark Wilson?

Are there any descendants of Mark Ransom (from the Toph Collection): "The Ransom cemetery is on the Ransom farm still owned by Mark Ransom" [about 1900]? The local historians in Milan believe Mark Ransom was never married. However, the marriage record from Ripley (from the Toph collection, pg 154) shows "Mark Ransome to Carrie E. Alden 19 Jun 1894".

The marriage record from Ripley (from the Toph collection, pg 102) shows "William H Shockley to Alice Ransom 18 Mar 1874". Is this the daughter of B. F. Ransom and Louina J Conger? Who are her descendants?

The marriage record from Ripley (from the Toph collection, pg 120) shows "John Ransom to Mary Paugh 20 Dec 1880". Who is this John RANSOM? What is his line?

The marriage record from Ripley (from the Toph collection, pg 46) shows "Joesph Ransom to Elizabeth Shook 15 Dec 1853". Is this Joesph the son of Elisha who married Corinthia Swift? Is this a different Joesph?

The Toph Collection says: "Mrs Margaret Wessa was Mrs Abigail Ransom's sister." Who were the parents of Margaret and Abigail Ransom? Is "Elizabeth, wife of John Wessa" (from the cemetery listing) this "Mrs Margaret Wessa"? Is the Mrs Abigail Ransom mentioned here Abigail Pool Ransom or her daughter?

The Toph Collection mentions Socrates Swift and says they were pioneers who came in 1820. My notes says Corinthia Swift married to Joesph Ransom 10 Jan 1820 in Wookstock? Were the Swifts from Vermont? Did Joseph return to Vermont to marry Corinthia? Did the Swifts and Ransoms move from VT together?

Who was Eliza Ransom Leighton , mentioned in the Toph Collection?

NAMES of INTEREST: Carrie E. Alden, Charlotte P. Austin, Franklin Butterfield, Eleanor Cole (or Chouton), Louina J (nie DEAN) Conger, James Davis, Sarah Freeland, Robert G. Glaspill (or Glasfed), Chloe Hathaway, Erasmus D(arwin?) Hathaway, Eliaz Ransom Leighton, Mary Paugh, Abigail Pool, William H Shockley, Elizabeth Shook, Jasper G Smith, Corinthia Swift, Socrates Swift, Elizabeth Weinkecht, Margaret Wells, Mrs Margaret Wessa, Clark Wilson,

Anyone with information about any of the names above might be able to help me with any of these names:

Abigail RANSOM, Benjamin Franklin RANSOM, Catharine Sophia RANSOM, Elisha RANSOM, Eliza Ann RANSOM, George Ransom, Jane RANSOM, Jason Kendall RANSOM, Joesph Ransom, John Ransom, Joseph RANSOM, Juinia RANSOM, Laura Farnsworth RANSOM, Mrs Abigail Ransom, Newman Austin RANSOM, Oscar Jackson RANSOM, Stillman RANSOM, Timothy RANSOM, William Seymour RANSOM, Alice Ransom, Elizabeth Ransom, Flora E.
