Hi I am your new county Coordinator - Judi Burns - I have been the assistant up till now - working with Katy to get material for the
site.
I have done alot of Greene county reasearch on my own lines - which date back before the county was established, my last ancestor
entered from Owen county Indiana in 1870 Robert Thomas McKee (my great-grandfather) he was the county commissioner when the
1885 courthouse was built, a civil war verteran and I have 2 of his Civil War Dairies. My Greene county lineage is up at:
Ahnentafel of Judith Elaine (Mc Kee) Burns
Since the first of April I have been in the process of sifting through the folders - transfering them to the new site with a new
format - seeing what is up and what lurks in the background. Please be patient - this will take some time.
Katy was in the process of redesigning the site and there are numerous duplicate folders and items moved around - So I am not
dumping anything as yet - just sifting thorough it slowly folder by folder - file by file; using here menu bar to the left -
So please be patient and if you can not find something or or a link comes up "NOT FOUND" please kindly e-mail me and let me know.
I am trying to put the site back into working order as quick as possible.
The new greene county Indiana site main page is at
Have you submitted information the past year and it is not up on site? Please let me know - so I know what I am looking for in her
folders. If I find new stuff not up I will add it as I go as yet I have no idea what is fully lurking behind the scenes in the
folders PLEASE be patient as I un-ravel each of them.
There are a couple of ways to do submissions. You may want to send your information as an attachment to my e-mail address at:
Or, you may want to send a cd to me (especially useful if you have a lot). Just e-mail me and
then I will give you an address in which to mail it too.
I am leaving the search engine as is for now - but I am told is not fully operational since rootsweb has moved all the site over
to the "Ancestry.com" side - this took effect this first week in April.
As you know, The Generations Network has hosted and funded the RootsWeb online community since June 2000, thereby
maintaining RootsWeb as the world’s oldest and largest free genealogy website. TGN remains committed to this mission and
believes that RootsWeb is an absolutely invaluable and complementary resource to Ancestry.com, our flagship commercial family
history site. We believe in both services and want to see both communities prosper and grow.
As part of this goal, we have decided to “transplant” RootsWeb onto the Ancestry.com domain beginning next week.
This move will not change the RootsWeb experience or alter the ease of navigation to or within RootsWeb. RootsWeb will remain a
free online experience. What will be different is that the Web address for all RootsWeb pages will change from www.rootsweb.com
to www.rootsweb.ancestry.com. Again, the RootsWeb experience is not changing.
The decision to host RootsWeb on Ancestry.com is being made for one primary reason: we believe that the users of each of our two
main websites can be better served if they have access to the best services available on both. Simply stated, we want to introduce
more Ancestry.com users to RootsWeb and vice versa.....
All old RootsWeb URLs will continue to work, whether they are bookmarks or favorites, links to or from a hosted page or URLs
manually typed in your Internet browser. We will have a redirect in place so that all old URLs will automatically end up on the
appropriate new RootsWeb URL. You will never need to update your old favorites or links unless you want to. We have worked to make
the transition as seamless as possible for our users, and this change should have a minimal impact on your experience with the site.
RootsWeb will remain a free online experience dedicated to providing you with a place where our community can find their roots
together. If you have questions regarding this change please email them to feedback@rootsweb.com.
