ILLINOIS STATE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

WORLD WAR I & WORLD WAR II CERTIFICATE PROJECTS

The Illinois State Genealogical Society has recently added two new certificates to our Military Recognition project - one for descendants of World War I veterans and the other for descendants of World War II veterans. The certificates are issued with two purposes in mind:

a. to recognize the sacrifices made by the veteran's valiant efforts and

b. to record and preserve material submitted in support of the certificates so that it will be available for future generations of researchers.

Eligibility for WW I Certificate: The applicant must be a direct descendant of a World War I veteran. The veteran must have served between 6 Apr 1917 and 11 Nov 1918. The veteran must also have an Illinois connection which can be any one of the following: he/she lived, died or is buried in Illinois.

Eligibility for WWII Certificate: The applicant must be a direct descendant of a World War II veteran. The veteran must have served between 7 Dec 1941 and 31 Dec 1946. The veteran must also have an Illinois connection which can be any one of the following: he/she lived, died or is buried in Illinois.
