September meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Tri-Township Library,
209 S. Main, Troy, IL.
Troy Genealogical Society members will be
available to show us their genealogical resources and answer
questions.

November 13, 2008: Tom Pearson will present
a program on
Exploring Family History With Local
Newspapers.
Join us as we learn that obituaries are only
the tip of the iceberg when it comes to newspapers: there's much
more information of genealogical value in newspapers -- if you
know where to look.
Tom Pearson works as a Reference Librarian
in the Rare Books & Special Collections Department of St.
Louis Public Library. He is Newsletter Editor for St. Clair County
Genealogical Society and Missouri State Genealogical Society,
and also edits MoSGA's blog, MoSGA Messenger <http://mosga.blogspot.com/>.
He gives frequent talks at the Central Library
in downtown St. Louis, and has also provided talks for numerous
local genealogical and lineage societies. He was a featured speaker
at the St. Louis Genealogical Fair in 2007 and 2008.
Also, Judy Thompson, Reference Librarian at
Edwardsville Public Library, will make a short presentation on
Internet access to the items digitized through the Ilinois State
Library's LSTA grant program.
Visitors are
always welcome.
Goals of the Society
To encourage and educate
persons in the study of family history and research methods.
To preserve genealogical
and historical record.
To inform people of
the importance of collecting, preserving, and circulating genealogical
literature.
To promote research,
publish, and circulate genealogical records and information .
To further these goals,
the Society maintains a genealogical library room in the Edwardsville
Public Library, holds workshops, invites guest speakers on topics
relevant to genealogical research, and publishes genealogical
records.
