Society Links National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) has over 26,000 members. Membership is open to any male who can prove blood descent from someone who supported the cause of American Independence during the year 1774-1783. The society is commonly known as the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). Illinois Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (ILSSAR) is the state society of NSSAR for members living in the state of Illinois. The SAR is organized in a three tier structure: national society, state socities, and local chapters. National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) has over 170,000 members. Membership is open to any female who can prove blood descent from someone who supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774-1783. The society is commonly known as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). General Society Sons of the Revolution is a complimentary organization to NSSAR. The organization is commonly known as the Sons of the Revolution (SR). The major difference is that membership to the Sons of Revolution requires that your ancestor provided military/militia service (vs. "support"). Sons of the Revolution - Illinois is the Illinois state level organization of the Sons of the Revolution. Other Links Moraine Hills State Park is 1,690 acre park in McHenry County, Illinois, where our namesake is located. Lake Defiance is a 48 acre lake located in center of the park. The park contains over 10 miles of hiking trails, and numerous species of wildlife, including red fox, coyote, deer, mink, opossum, racoon, and over 100 species of birds. Great Lakes Naval Station (NAVSTA) is naval training facility north of Chicago (Northeast Illinois). The Lake Defiance chapter recogzines outstanding cadets with an Academic Achievement Award. |
