  • Lucy Dill (currently unavailable)
to look up material at the library or for further information about any of the books mentioned.
    • The Emmett Public Library contains many local histories, journals, manuscripts, and several old histories of small communities in the Payette Valley.
    • The library also has microfilm of all of the newspapers published in the Emmett Valley since 1893.
    • Small cemetaries dot the countryside in Gem County and only a few have been indexed; however, a local genealogist, Edith Scott, compiled all of the obituaries from the local newspapers, indexed them and bound her indexed work into three volumes. The fourth and fifth volumes have been recently published. Gem County Historical Society volunteers are keeping Scott's obituary book current.
    • The library has acquired two new autobiographical histories of Gem County people.
      1. The first one is titled IDAHO MOUNTAINS, Our Home: Live in Idaho's Back Country. It is the life story of Lafe and Emma Cox. The volume contains many pictures and is indexed. A marvelous story of life in an area known as the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness.
      2. The second Gem County volume is Rewards of Revenge, by Art Colson. An interesting biographical volume about a colorful Gem County man named "Deadshot" Reed, who migrated to Gem County from Texas. Unfortunately, the book is not indexed, but well worth reading.
    • A third recent acquisition by the Emmett Public Library is of wider interest. It is titled Big Trouble, by J Anthony Lukas. A murder in a small western town (Caldwell, Canyon County, Idaho) sets off a struggle for the soule of America. The author also wrote the Pulitzer-Prize winning Common Ground.

  •  Angie
Will look up information in Gem County. Can take pictures of headstones. The Knox family is her ancestors in Gem County for many generations.
