Fix-It Man Earl Rempp adjusts his drill press. A century-old musket and powder horn, two of many antiques he has accumulated, lean against the machine. Mrs. Rempp examines a lamp her husband made from native walnut. Also shown are lamps he made from an old jug and pottery and a sickbed tray.
From February 1955 Republican newspaper: The old mingles pleasantly with the new at the home of Earl Rempp,"Fix-It Man" who lives three miles southeast of Montezuma. Representing the old is the array of antique articles Rempp has accumulated. In the new category are the modern tools he has installed in his shop to perform odd jobs of "fixing" for farmers of the neighborhood. Earl works with both metal and wood, doing small projects for the most part. From the collection of Iva Quaintance Street.

August 10, 1948, Oskaloosa Herald:

Among the old timers who will be at the Montezuma Centennial is A.O. "Dick"  Morgan, 81, a life-long resident of that city. The violin he is holding is the one he has played on many occassions around the town and the surrounding area. He said he has had it for 66 years and an uncle had it for over 40 years before that. "It was old when it was given to my uncle," he stated. The 113-year old violin is still in excellent condition. Morgan was on the board of supervisors for a total of 12 years and has been active in civic events.

The Breniman family of Brooklyn
The Breniman family lived in the Brooklyn area. This picture is of the children of Christian and Barbara Breniman. The family came from Switzerland in 1852, living briefly in Ohio before buying land in Poweshiek Co. The youngest son, Johann Franklin, was born in Iowa. In order of birth, the children were Christian, Friedrick, Rosina, Margaretha, Rudolf or Reuben (a Civil War drummer boy), Gottlieb, Marianna, Anna Elisabetha, Arnold and John.(Two other daughters died in infancy in Switzerland.) In this picture, one son is not there. I believe Rudolf is on the left, and probably Christian on the right. Rosina and Margaretha sitting in front
