Cocklin

Cocklin, C. V. (p. 396)

C.V. Cocklin was b. 24 July 1857 in Postawattamie Co., Ia, a son of Reuben F. and Margaret (Beck) Cocklin, natives of Pennsylvania. Reubin Cocklin d. 26 Feb. 1910, and was the father of five children; Letitia, m. Benton Christie of Grandview; Clark, Mary B. m. George Rexroth of Grandview; C.V.; and George W. of Muscatine.

C.V. Cocklin m. 4 September 1881 to Millie Bernard, b. 7 January 1863 at Port Louisa, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Schneider) Bernard, her father a native of Gallipolis, Ohio and the mother of Germany.  The parents were m. in Louisa County..

Mr. and Mrs. Cocklin had five children: Charles R. b. 21 June 1884; George B. b. 30 March 1889; Jessie L. b. 28 March 1892; Howard b. 8 October 1895; and Bessie b. 30 April 1899. 


Collins

Collins, John H.(p. 504)

John H. Collins was born 13 October 1859 in Muscatine County, the son of Harris and Sarah (Denham) Collins. Parents were natives of Ohio.  He married 24 October 1883 to Maggie Flanagan b. 15 August 1859, in Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Smith) Flanigan, natives of Ireland. Children of John H. Collins: Bert H. b. 7 November 1884; Edward H. b. 27 April 1887; Lola M. b. 18 August 1889; John Arden b. 3 August 1892; Clifford H. b. 14 May 1894; William Fay b. 19 September 1896 and Kenneth Earrol b. 13 May 1898, d. age six months. 


Colton

Colton, John (p.320)

John Colton was b. 1839 in Adams Co., Pennsylvania, the son of Irish parents, Patrick and Hannah (O'Brien) Colton. They came to Louisa Co., Iowa in 1842. Siblings: James; Frank; and Thomas. His father d. when he was seventeen.  He married November 1876 to Julia A. McCarthy, b. 22 February 1851 in Boston, d. 3 October 1910.  She was the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Donohue) McCarthy and came to Iowa with her parents in 1862.  They had two children, both of whom d. in infancy.


Cotter

Cotter, Richard (p. 306)

Richard Cotter was born 14 April 1844 in Franklin Co., New York, the son of William and Mary (Brodrick) Cotter, natives of County Cork, Ireland. They first settled in New York where they resided until 1850, moved to Kankakee, Illinois and on to Louisa Co., Ia. in 1863.  They had six children: Margaret, Edward, Ellen Julius, Mary and Richard, our subject.

Richard Cotter married 27 March 1879 to Jennie Blair, the daughter of W.T. and Sarah (Duncan) Blair, who were born near Loudon, Tennessee and were married there 9 December 1845. They were the parents of: James, Buffalo, KS; Samuel of Walker Oak, Oklahoma; Joseph Blair, Columbus Jct.; William of Wilmington, N.C.; and the above Jennie.

Richard and Jennie (Blair) Cotter had eight children: William; Francis; Cleveland; James; Dolllie; Edwin; Helen; and Pauline. 


Courtney

Courtney, James P. (p.466)

James P. Courtney was born 4 February 1867 in Muscatine, son of James and Mary (Leahy) Cortny. The mother ws b. in Ireland and the father in Canada. SIblings: John T.; Katie; Frank; Michael; Ella m. H.E. Kelly of El Paso, Texas; and Felista, d. age 18.

James Courtny m. 12 August 1895 to Nancy H. Brown, b. in Davis Co., Ia in June 1861, the daughter of John and Anna (Daniels) Brown, both natives of Ohio, but among the pioneers of Louisa Co. The father d. in 1870 and the mother in 1892. Nancy's siblings: Benjamin; Peter; Elizabeth m. H.J. Speck, of Oklahoma; Mary m. H.N. Mathews of Oakville; and David, of Carroll, Ia.

James and Nancy Courtny had three children: Velma I., b. 28 January 1896; James O., b. 19 March 1898; and Edna J., b. 13 March 1900.


Creighton

Creighton, Samuel H.

Samuel H. Creighton was born 23 March 1873, in Elliott Twp., Louisa Co., son of David J. and Mary R. (Conrod) Creighton.  The father was also born in Louisa County. Mr. and Mrs. David J. Creighton had five children, the other four: Emily Ann m. Frank Robinson of Ottumwa, Ia; Melissa H. m. George Cobbs of Ottumwa; Dennis of Mediapolis; and Letta m.. Fred Wallace, also of Ottumwa. In 1896, Samuel H. Creighton married Anna Carter, a native of Louisa County. 


Cross

Cross, Thomas B.

Thomas B. Cros was born 20 October 1847 in Crawford Co., Ohio, the son of David and Nancy (Louther) Cross. The father was a native of Delaware and the mother of Holmes Co., Ohio where they were married.  His siblings: D.W. of Fredonia; Rose Ann m. William Slough and d. in Page County; William, Civil War Vet, d. in Muscatine Co.; John; Ellen m. Samuel Walker who was k. in Civil War and later m. Enoch Aurand; James d. in Nebraska; and Finley d. in Kansas City.

On the 6 of September 1888, Thomas B. Cross married S.J. Foster, who was born in Louisa County, the daughter of Harrison and Sarah (Reynolds) Foster.  The parents were natives of Ohio.  Her father d. 1867 and the mother d. 23 December 1900.  Her siblings were: Mary E.; Frances M.; Fannie C.; Henry H.; Andrew J.; Solomon D.; and Lydia E. Thomas B. and S.J. Cross had five children: Edna B. b. 21 August 1889; Ralph R. b. 12 February 1891; Alvin J. b. 4 October 1892; Zena A. b. 8 July 1894 and Sallie E. who d. as an infant. 


Curtis

Curtis, E.S. ( p. 298)

E. S. Curtis, b. 14 August 1853 in Chillicothe, Illinois, son of S.C. and Harriet (Briggs) Curtis.  The father was b. 9 September 1826 in Steuben Co., N.Y.; and the mother was born in LIncolnshire England on the 13 October 1831. They were married 11 March 1852 at Three Rivers, Michigan.

On the 23 December 1875, E. S. Curtis married, Mary Newell, a native of Concord Twp. and a daughter of R.F. and Christina Newell.  They had five children: Maud b. 19 May 1878 who m. A. W. Newell of Denver Colorado by whom she had four children: Mary I.; Thomas E.; Faith C.; and Agnes B. Robert S., b. 14 February 1881; Caroline F., b. February 1887; Benjamin H., b. 7 March 1889; Edward C. b. 13 April 1894. 


Cutcome

Cutcome, William (b. 497)

William Cutcome was born 11 December 1841, in Prussia, Germany. He married 22 February 1866 to Rosanna Dix, daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Williams) Dix, the father a native of Virginia and the mother of Ohio. Her siblings were: Paulina Jane m. James Payton of Miami,Oklahoma; Adelia, m. Homer Darrow of Denver, Co; and Nancy m. James Costa of Anthony, Ks.

Mr. and Mrs. Cutcome had six children: William b. November 1867; Louisa m. Isaac Stone, of Wellings, Colorado. and Curtis, Mose, Albert and Ralph d. 21 September 1911. 


Cutkomp

Cutkomp, Benjamin (p. 459)

Benjamin Cutkomp was b. 18 January 1864, at Columbus City, Ia., the son of Charles and Amanda (Stoddard) Cutkomp, the former born in Germany and emigrated to America and settled in Iowa in 1853. There were seven children in the family: Erastus; Charles; Clarence; Eddie; Eva; Fred; and Benjamin, our subject.

Benjamin Cutkomp married 12 October 1886 to Leona Cutcomp, daughter of Henry and Sarah (Berry) Cutkomp, her parents both born in Pennsylvania. Her siblings were: Abraham; Jane m. William Bretz of Louisa Co.; Henry; Catherine m. M.D. Hanft; Lewis E.; and Ida, m. Thomas Stark.

Benjamin and Leona Cutcomp had four children: Gussie b. 15 October 1887, d. 12 May 1890; Herman Henry b. 27 August 1892; Samuel Milton b. 8 January 1895 and Thomas W. b. 24 July 1897.
