Ba
Baker, J.G. (p. 101)
James Geddes Baker was born in Louisa County 12 March 1868, son of Benjamin Stephen and Nancy Agnes (Wykert) Baker. The father was a native of New York State and the mother of West Virginia, becaming a resident of Louisa County in 1835. Proficient in the photography and had a photograph gallery in Columbus Jct, where he settled in 1907. J.G. had one brother Benjamin Franklin, also who lived in Louisa County.
In 1895, James G. Baker married 1)Clara Elizabeth Grafe, a daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth Grafe. Mrs. Baker died in the fall of 1898, leaving a son James Walter, born February 1898. On 11 May 1907, he married 2) Bessie Forbes, daughter of William C. and Henrietta (Kincaid) Forbes. She was one of thirteen children.
Baker, J.L. (p. 542)
J.L. Baker was born 10 March 1851, a son of William and Matilda (Gullette) Baker both natives of Georgia. His siblings were: Julia, wife of W.P. Marsden of Columbus City; Thomas A. of Oklahoma; Louisa C., the widow of W.K. Moore of Columbus Junciton; Dulcina L., the widow of J. Heindel of Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Baker was twice married, secondly to W.W. Paschall by whom she had one son D.R. Paschall of Des Moines.
J.L. Baker married Ella Barrington, daughter of Abraham and Catharine (McCoy) Barrington, on the 29 November 1878. They had five children: Ralph E., graduate of engineering at Iowa State and moved to Chicago; Lyle T. of Louisa Co.; Julia Alice; and William Harland
Ball
Ball, Abner

Abner Ball, son of Davis and Rhoda (Woodcock) Ball, born on October 25,1832, married (1) in Louisa County in 1854 to Mary Jane Wykert, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Jane (Chubb) Wykert; Abner and Jane had four children, one dying in infancy; Franklin, dying at age 7. Surviving to adulthood were Almond T. and John M. Abner Ball was married (2) Almeda Huffman and had children Ruth, who died at age two, and sons Alvah and Wilbur A. Rhoda Woodcock Ball was the daughter of Alanson Lansing Woodcock.
Abner's sister, Eunice Almira Ball born November 22, 1833, married Amzi Donaldson. Almira died in 1914, survived by a son, C. M. Donaldson and a daughter Mrs. J.W. Morgan.
Bantle
Bantle, Leonard (p. 122)
Leonard Bantle was born 10 September 1862 in Mercer County, Illinois, the son of John and Betty Ann (Westfall) Bantle, the former a native of Germany and the latter of Iowa. John Bantle lost his life in the civil War and his wife passed away two years later when Leonard was only severn years old. He was raised by an uncle Richard Bantle of Mercer County, Ill. In 1883, he came first to Huron Twp., Des Moines Co, Iowa to the farm left him by his father. Fifteen years later, he came to Louisa Co.
Leonard Bantle was married three times 1) Nettie Harris, daughter of Isaac Harris, by whom he had one daughter Vada b. 17 September 1884, who married Roy Fisher 2)Helma Nyberg, a native of Illinois who died in March 1903 leaving two sons and a daughter, namely John Harland, b. 1888, d. 1910; Orville Leonard, b. 1890 and Ida Blanche. 3) Mrs Mary Jacoby, the widow of Reuben Jacoby.
Barnett
Barnett, W.T. (p. 520)
William T. Barnett was born in Corydon, Wayne Co, Iowa 10 March 1853 and was the son of Rev. William and Judith (Saunders) Barnett. His father was a native of Kentucky and his mother of Virginia. He was a brakeman on the Missouri,Kansas and Texas Railroad for two years and then became a telegraph operator and ticket agent and was assigned agent at Lineville,Iowa, whence he came to Letts, in Louisa County. He married 1) Minnie Taylor, a native of Unionville, by whom he had one son Ethan A. b. in 1879 who subsequently married and had one child Helen. He married 2) Katie Freeland who was born at Grandview, Iowa, the daughter of Isaac and Julia Freeland. They had three children, Julie and Helen J., d. young and a son Jay Lincoln b. in 1890.
The Rev. Barnett was the captain on a boat on the Ohio river until 1848 when he came west. He died 1896 and his wife died in 1903. They had seven children: Maggie, widow of J.C. Chambers of Corydon, William T., above; M.C., who married L.K. Shell of Corydon; A.N. a resident of Cambria, Iowa; E.A. the wife of M.C. Rush; George M., of Centerville, Iowa and J.M. of Des Moines.
Isaac and Julie Freeland were married in Grandview and had a mercantile business there. They had three children: Albia, who had a mercantile business in Fontana, Kansas; T.L who was in the same business with his brother and Katie who married W.T. Barnett.
Barrick
Barrick, D.E. (p. 175)
Daniel E. Barrick, born 5 October 1866, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, the son of George W. and Mary Jane (Mixell) Barrick. Siblings: Harvey; Laura Bell, wife of D.S. Devore; Samuel C. also of Louisa Co.; Susan R., wife of Adam Henderson of Green Spring, Pa.; and Merven E. of Boulder, Colorado; His father married 2) Mrs. Susan (Griffin) Reese, by whom he had Lillian Gertrude, who married Wilbur Stoner of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Cora E. who lived in Wapello, Iowa.
Daniel married M. DeEtte Smith, daughter of Samuel Hayden and Mary Ann (Tinkham) Smith on 25 February 1891. They had three children Fern Marie, b. 15 May 1892; Ray b. 18 March 1894; and Leslie Clair b 17 February 1896, d. 5 September 1897.
Beik
Beik, C.F. (p. 433)
Charley F. Beik was born in Port Louisa Township, Louisa Co. on 3 April 1865, the son of Jacob and Emma (Jackson) Beik. the latter a native of Germany. Siblings: Molly, wife of John Hardman of Lousia Co.; Frank L.; John; and two who died in infnancy Mr. Beik m. 2) Verda Hardley of Illinois and by her, he had six more children: Emma, wife of I.E. Downer of Muscatine; Kate m. Henry Sweitzer of Louisa Co.; Arthur, a Louisa County teacher; Grace m. George Webber; Herald; and Paul.
On 21 April 1909, he married Susan Zimmerman, who was born in Louisa County in 1879, the daughter of John and Mary Zimmerman. Her siblings were: Charley; Emma, married James Green of Columbus City; Dallas of Grandview; Bert; George; Minnie, who married Celly Ross and died 16 April 1898; and Nina May.
Beik, F.L. ( p.296)
Frank L. Beik was born in Port Louisa Twp on 25 June 1872, son of Jacob and Emma (Jackson) Beik. Married 12 April 1894 to Mollie Kammerer, born in Louisa County, daughter of J. and Caroline (Charles) Kammerer, natives of Germany. Her siblings were: John; Harry, Bert, Charley, Otto Kammerer. Frank and Mollie had five chilren: Marcus b. 24 June 1895; Emma C. b. 5 January 1899; Bertha M. b. 23 November 1900; Leona b. 8 July 1907 and Lucille I. b. 29 January 1911.
Beik, Jacob (p.236)
Jacob Beik was born in Germany in May 1832, the son of Frederick and Sarah (Schneider) Beik, both natives of Baden, Germany. The family emigrated to America in 1845. His father died 23 August 1884 and his mother died two years later. He had five siblings: Frederick born in Germany, died in California; Sarah, married Mr. Benz of Muscatine; George and Katharine. He married 1)Emma H. Jackson on 18 June 1863, by whom he had six children: Charles, Mollie, Frank L., John J. and two infants. She died 12 November 1875. He married 2)23 March 1877 to Alverda A. Handley, born New Boston, Illinois, the daughter of Eli and Katherine (Denison) Handley, both natives of Indiana. Alverda had a sister Elizabeth R., who married George Weiderecht. By Alverda, Jacob had six more children: Emma G., Katie B., Arthur K.; Grace E.; Harold J.; and Paul D. Jacob Beik died 18 May 1908.
Beik, J.J. (p. 531)
John J. Beik, also the son of Jacob and Emma Jackson Beik was born 16 June 1875, lived with his grandmother after his mother died and made his home with her as an adult. He managed the lumber and coal yard of the W. G. Block Company and bought the business in 1910.
Benz, J.W. (p.158)
Jacob W. Benz was born 14 December 1866, the son of Mathias and Lucy (Schneider) Benz. His father was from Baden Germany and his mother from Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. Siblings: Lydia, married W.F. Nelson; Mollie, married H. J. Jeffries of Muscatine; Annie married O.J. Derby; Albert died at age of eight; and Zula, deceased wife of J.W. Hintermeister.
Jacob married Nettie Beik on 18 February 1904. She was born 20 April 1866, the daughter of Louis and Lovey (Godfrey) Beik. Her father was born in Baden, Germany, but they were married in Louisa County. her siblngs were: Luella married C.W. Graham of Grandview; May married C.E. Wilson.
Jacob and Nettie had one child Nola May born 27 June 1907, but they raised his sister's son Hershal Oliver Hintermeister after his mother's death.
Bigger
Bigger, J.A.P. (p. 415)
John Anson Penniman Bigger was born in Washington County Pennsylvania in 1875, the son of John M. and Kate (McVey) Bigger. The family came to Iowa in 1887. On 25 June 1902, he was married to Edna Blanche Jamison. They had one son Merritt Shannon born 3 March 1904. Mrs. Bigger was the daughter of Merritt I. and Mary Ella (Whitcomb) Jamison.
J.A. Bigger was proprietor and editor of the Wapello Tribune and he gained a reputation as one of the efficient factors of the country press of Iowa. In 1877, the father moved the family to Ohio and ten years later came to Vinton, Iowa, where he and his wife spent the remainder of their lives. Two of their children still living in 1912 were J.N. S. who was born December 28, 1871 and was a resident in Vinton and J. A. P. of this review.
At twelve years of age, J. A. P. Bigger came to Iowa with his parents
and in the public schools of Vinton he received his preliminary education.
Later he possessed advantages of attendance at Tilford Colegiate Academy.
As a young man he began learning the printer's trade in the office of the
Vinton Eagle. In 1905, he purchased the Wapello Tribune, a republican
weekly, which under his management ably represented the principles of the
party and became one of the leading papers in the state.
Billick
Billick, L.A. (p. 307)
Louis A. Billick was born January 5, 1872 in Lousia County. He was the son of James and Susan (Jacobs) Billick, the father a native of Pennsylvania and the mother of Virginia. He married 10 March 1905 to Maud Sheridan, the only child of Abner and Rosetta (Maxwell) Sheridan. They had three children: Louis Raymond b. 1 September 1906; Eva Ruth, b. 2 November 1907 and Leland Bruce b. 9 July 1908.
Blanchard
Blanchard, J.E. (p. 267)
James E. Blanchard was born in Oswego County, New York on the 13 of July 1831, the son of Timothy and Mary (Holmes) Blanchard, also natives of New York. His siblings were: Lesha; Holmes; James E; Jacob; Esther; Elizabeth married George Bolton of Louisa County.; Caroline, married Mayland Starks of Missouri; Calvin; and Timothy also of Missouri. Mr. Blanchard married Tamson Welch on 20 October 1856. She died 19 May 1901. They had four children: Alfa; Ida married John Morris of Davis County, Iowa; Leota, married Charles Stone; and Charles who was the editor of the Christian Union of Des Moines.
Bollenbach
Bollenbach, C.J. (p. 494)
Charles J. Bollenbach ws born 24 September 1871, the son of Charles and Barbara (Wenegar) Bollenbach. He married 24 September 1895 to Anna M. Clements, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Vogel) Clementz. She died 16 May 1911 and was buried at Arlington Heights, Illinois. They had two children: Laurene b. 20 May 1901 and Laverne b. 9 June 1904. He was a blacksmith.
Boltz
Boltz, Joseph (p. 80)
Joseph Boltz was born 20 June 1834 in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Shires) Boltz, He married Elizabeth Sarah Edwards on 4 June 1865. She was the daughter of Hugh and Eleanor (Williams) Edwards, natives of Wales.
His siblings were: Simon who died 1 June 1909; Joseph; William of Lebanon, PA; Catherine, married Samuel Clark of Lebanon; Mary marred R.R. Snavely of Annville, PA; Fannie married William Elliott.
Her siblings were Margaret, married Benjamin Jones of O'Brien County; Manassa; Ellen, married John K. Brown of Louisa County; Emma married D.R. Jones of Louisa County; Robert; Edward; Kate, married A. Orris; Mary, married Jake Miller; Baxter;
They had six children: Joseph E.; William S.; Eleanor; nancy Emma; Mary Eva; and Oscar.
