Jefferson County, Iowa Old Newspapers

We are aquiring many old newspaper articles that contain the names of past Jefferson County residents.  Some of these are just individual articles for an isolated issues of one of our newspapers and some a number from a series of issues from a single year.

In one of our more abitious projects we are in the process (and will be for some time) of going through a number of old newspapers that have been made available to our Jefferson County Genealogical Society.  We read the articles, select each article with genealogical significance, index the names in those, cut the article out, past them up into a scrapbook and transcribe them to go in a book to be available at our local library.   After that  we are making those articles and index available on this site.  This is a major long term project that is taking many many hours of volunteer help.  If you are interested in helping with this project we will send you images of the scrapbook pages to be transcribed and instructions about indexing the names from the article.  You can help make this a great and helpful project for Jefferson County.

We do not have the complete selection of articles for each year.  However, as we add articles and newspapers we will put the one we do have on this site.  We hope you enjoy reading them and we hope you find the name of someone from your family.  Perhaps an article will help you breech that brickwall with which you have been struggling.
