"The Last Indian Massacre in Georgia" by Gertrude Wildes Johnson

Tattnall County, GA, named for the newly elected Governor Josiah Tattnall, was formed on December 5, 1801 from Montgomery County.  Over time, bits and pieces of the county were taken to form new counties.  On August 18, 1905, Toombs County was created to the west from parts of Tattnall, Emanuel and Montgomery counties.  On July 14, 1914, Candler County was formed to the north from parts of Tattnall, Bulloch and Emanuel counties.  The most recent change to the boundaries of Tattnall County was on August 11, 1914, when the northeast sector of Tattnall County was joined with part of Bulloch County to create Evans County.

The county seat of Tattnall County is Reidsville.  Other towns you will find on the map here are Cobbtown, Collins, Manassass and Mendes.  Scattered about the county are about 51 churches, 40 cemeteries and 26 schools.  The agricultural climate is apparent when you are driving through -- a relaxing ride interrupted only by the trains as they go by.  So, sit back and enjoy the ride!
