Henry B. Brooks, 83, well-known Roman, died at the residence, 1927 North Broad Street, Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Mr. Brooks
had been in declining health since February, but died unexpectedly following a heart attack. He was born in Emerson, August
17, 1868, but had been a resident of Rome, the greater part of his life. Prior to retirement in 1937, he owned and operated a
grocery store. He was one of the original founders and stockholders of the Southern Co-Operative Foundry, and had been a
member of the North Broad Baptist Church for 40 years. He was married to the former Mary Eleanor Holland in 1885, who preceded
him in death in 1914. In 1915 he was married to the former Josephine Tarvin Smith, who preceded him in death in 1941. He was
also preceded in death by three sons, R. C., Albert, and O. C. Brooks. Surviving are two sons, Robert, of Rome, and H. Quincy
Brooks, Fountain City, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. H. B. Crutchfield, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; four step-sons, Homer, Clyde T. and
John S. Smith, all of Rome, and Robert M. Smith, Detroit; one step-daughter, Mrs. A. L. Lester, Anniston, Ala. Twelve
grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday
at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert S. Tucker and the Rev. Clyde Lee officiating.
Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Jennings' chapel until time for funeral services. Pall
bearers will include W. E. Dellinger, Clyde Shropshire, Wright Bagby, Griffin Rush, Winston Freeman and Clifford Brown.
