MILTON COUNTY

MILTON COUNTY, GEORGIA CEMETERIES (Present Day Northern Fulton County), by Phillip B. Anglin, 2002. NOT AVAILABLE
Milton County, Georgia was created on December 18, 1857 from parts of Cherokee, Cobb and Forsyth Counties. At later dates land was taken from portions of DeKalb, Gwinnett, and additional amounts were taken from Forsyth County. Milton County Georgia ceased to exist on january 1, 1932 when it merged into Fulton County. The appropriate offices of Fulton County now maintain the records of Milton County. Milton County was named for Homer V. Milton, a General in the War of 1812, though some claim the name was for his ancestor, John Milton, the First Secretary of State of Georgia. Roswell Georgia was the former county seat of Milton County.

A good many articles are included about the events leading up to the Creek Indian Wars in 1812 and 1813, Indian hostilities, and an accounting of some of the battles fought. Not much has been written about this period of Georgia history, and this book will provide greater insight, as well as aid in your genealogical research. Although the clippings are for many Georgia counties, the majority are for the following: Baldwin, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Lincoln, Oglethorpe, and Wilkinson.
