Would you like help with your genealogy challenges? Do you have a brick wall to conquer? Submit your genealogy problems and let our panel of experienced researchers point you in a new direction on May 17th at the Athens-Clarke County Public Library. Even if you don't submit a challenge, you will learn a lot from hearing the suggestions. Visit the meetings page for more details on this and other upcoming meetings.

Thanks to everyone for the best Expo ever! If you have any suggestions for improvements for next year's Expo or suggestions of speakers or vendors to invite, please email Nona.

Clarke County, Georgia was created on 5 December 1801 from a portion of Jackson County. The county was named in honor of the distinguished Revolutionary War soldier, Gen. Elijah Clarke (1733-1799). Although the courthouse was in Watkinsville from 1801 until 1877, all the pre-1875 records are in Athens.

Oconee County, Georgia was created on 25 February 1875 from a portion of Clarke County. The county was named for the Oconee River which forms its eastern boundary. Both counties are located in northeast Georgia.
