We, the undersigned property owners of the North City, respectfully call the attention of the Honorable Board of Aldermen of the City of St. Augustine to the fact that notwithstanding the arrangement made by your Honorable Board with Mr. Joyce after the fires of April 1887
with regard to the protection of the whole city from fire, notwithstanding moreover that we are paying taxes for the protection of our property from fire, and that those amongst our member who own wells have offered them to the city for the purpose of connecting to them the necessary pipes and hydrants and not withstanding finally that we in common with the citizens, have subscribed towards the purchase of the new Fire Engines, that our property is absolutely unprotected from fire, there not being a single hydrant north of the city gates.
We pray therefore that this important matter may be considered by the Honorable Board of Aldermen and that some steps may be taken to place such pipes and hydrants as may be necessary before the paving of the shell road.

To the Honor the city council of the city of St. Augustine
Gentlemen
I would very respectfully state to your Hon Body. that recently there was purchased for engine no 2 1 ton of soft coal this evening while examining said engine room I find that Co No. 2 has scarcely $1.00 of coal on hand a total insufficiency in case of an emergency. I find also by investigation that certain locks have been broken and said coal taken away from the engine house. I would respectfully ask your Honorable body to procure or empower me to procure 2 tons of soft coal, also locks for engine house.
My reason for asking your Hon Body for the above is the lack of interest taken by our Chief in ordering same. I will further state that Engine No. 2 has as I said above, about $1 coal on hand
