Special Collections Department at Largo Public Library

The Society houses its collections, by permanent loan contract, in the Genealogy Center at the Largo Public Library.  Society members actively participate as genealogy volunteers in the library to assist Genealogy patrons.  The combined collection includes over 500 CD-ROMS.  There are over 17,000 sheets of microfiche AND OVER 12,000 ROLLS OF MICROFILM. There are over 9,000 books covering how-to topics, war pension files, immigration indexes, family histories, newspaper abstracts, census indexes, a growing European and Canadian section and more. The complete U.S. Federal Census is available for the years 1790, 1800, 1810, 1850, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1920 and 1930. Other years are available for various portions of the U.S. Over 250 reels of State Census films and 200 films covering Native American and African American genealogy round out the collection.

FIVE online databases are available: Ancestry LIBRARY EDITION, HeritageQuest, NEW ENGLAND ANCESTORS, PROQUEST OBITUARIES and GENLINE. TWO DATABASES, HERITAGEQUEST and PROQUEST OBITS are now available from your home computer through the virtual library link to the Largo library website here. You will need to enter the bar code number from your library card for access.
