Our chapter sponsors two genealogy workshops each year.

If you are interested in joining DAR but you know very little about your ancestry, we are here to help you!  Chapter members will assist you in finding a Revolutionary War patriot hidden in your lineage and gathering the documentation necessary to prove your descent from the patriot.  Contact our Chapter Regent for more information.

We conduct several genealogy workshops each year for community members interested in researching their family tree.  Our next workshop will be held on September 16, 2008.  For further information or to make a reservation, contact our Chapter Regent.

If you are interested in researching your family history, the first step is to prepare an ancestor chart of what is known about your ancestors.  If you have the free Adobe Reader program on your computer, you can download a free ancestor chart from this site

On the chart, list the names, birth dates, marriage dates, and death dates of your ancestors along with the location (town, county, and state) where each event occurred.  Focus on your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.  This free online tutorial will help you get started with your research.

When attending the workshop, bring your ancestor charts and any information that you have collected about your ancestors.  If you have a relative who is or was a DAR member, bring a copy of her application papers if possible.  If you don't have her papers, we will be happy to assist you in obtaining them.

The study of genealogy is fun and rewarding.  It is our link to our past, and it enriches our present.
