TERRITORIAL PAPERS OF THE UNITED STATES

I have obtained and transcribed two petitions from the published
TERRITORIAL PAPERS OF THE UNITED STATES, Vol. XXIII, Florida Territory 1824-1828

held on microfilm at the Florida Archives. The first petition is dated November, 1824 and was created and signed by 146 men from Jackson County. It was a request for protection from land speculators and for fair treatment as the US took over lands already settled by these men. The second is signed by men of both Jackson and Walton Counties and ask for a Port of Entry at St. Andrews. There are 46 names on the second petition. Jack Butler e-mail JackVButler@worldnet.att.net
