Satsuma Oranges Jackson Co FL
They were Satsuma oranges. I am not sure of the exact dates, but I know they were grown extensively across much of Jackson County after the turn of the century. Marianna even hosted a Satsuma Festival in the 20's. A severe cold spell wiped out the crop and forced the citrus industry further south into Central Florida.
There used to be a book on Jackson County's Satsuma industry in the basement of the courthouse. I have no idea if it is still there. When the Satsuma trees were killed, they replaced them with tung nut trees. (Dale Cox)
