Central School
Sept 1927 - May 1952

Jackson County, Florida

From Wayne N Carpenter:

I'm riding down an old country dirt road not really knowing where I'm going. Seeing nothing but trees, not even another vehicle when I see this memorial plaque.

This school was located on Circle Hill Road, north of Sneads off of River Road. It was located between Circle Hill Baptist Church and Lovedale Community. Thought it might be of interest, plus maybe someone could give a history about it.

What is the History of Central School? e-mail me.

Betty,

My father, Clinton Cox, Cecil Hewitt and a few others put up the monument at Central School. Basically they did it to remember their own childhoods. The school, before it closed, served children from the central precinct of Jackson County. Interestingly, at some point during its existance, Hank Williams performed there. My mother obtained his autograph at Central School when she was a child.

The building, no longer used as a school, was destroyed by fire after a lightning strike during the 1960s. The steps and some of the foundations can still be seen.

The monument was put up, I think, 3 years ago.
