About Thompson

The town of Thompson was incorporatedi n May 1785 when taken from Killingly. It is bordered by Webster, MA to the North, Rhode Island to the East, Putnam to the South and Woodstock to the West. The town was named after Sir Robert Thompson, and english landowner and is appx. 48.7 sq. miles with a 2000 census population of 8872 residents.  Today the town is made up of 10 villages: East Thompson, Wilsonville, Fabyan, Quinebaug, Quaddick, Mechanicsville, Grosvenordale, North Grosvenordale, Thompson Hill and West Thompson.

Comments: Birth, Marriage and Death records for Thompson are available from ___ to the present.  Connecticut town halls hold all original records, with copies after 1897 being sent to the CT Vital Records Dept. In order to access most records less than 100 years old, you must be a member of  an incorporated Genealogical Society such as the Connecitcut Society of Genealogists.  Confirmaton of hours, fees and availability of records should be verified before visiting the office.
