Dr. Patterson had direct access to the original town records 50 years before Gen. Lucius Barbour began his exhaustive Connecticut VRs. My copy is of a copy of a typescript, but is mostly clear. I have up through the 4th generation of GATESes, with part of the 5th and subsequent, up to the then living 7th generation (1865). I have copied the index of both GATES names and of others who married into the family except for the page MORRI-PHEK. DH3
