| Welcome
to the Bahamas/Bahama Islands Gen Web Project. We are part of the regional
Caribbean GenWeb Project, which is part of the World GenWeb Project. On these pages you will find
the resources you need to find clues to family ties to these
islands. By following the recommendations on these pages, you
should find your way around the challenges that Caribbean
genealogy research can create. The Bahamas/Bahama Islands are a chain of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. They are located southeast of Florida and northeast of Cuba. There are 21 districts which make up the Bahamas. Only about 40 of the islands are currently inhabited. See map below. Official Description: Commonwealth of the Bahamas, independent state in the West Indies, consisting of an archipelago of 700 islands, and islets and nearly 2400 cays and rocks, extending for about 750 miles from a point SE of Palm Beach, Florida, to a point off the E tip of Cuba.
