    Donna Fraser sent in this link to an interesting website called Victoria's Victoria provided for historians by the University of Victoria. The site contains resources such as old maps and photographs.       http://web.uvic.ca/vv/index.html 

     I was cruising the web the other day and started out looking for a nice photograph of the Empress of Canada. I eventually went from site to site, subject to subject, and enjoyed finding photographs, news articles etc. not only about ships but about ports and emigration/immigration. This site provides access to four indices of tens of thousands of summarized transcripts of articles first appearing in newspapers published on Vancouver Island between 1859 and 1921.

Make a note of the Nanaimo Family History Society Spring Seminar. The speaker will be Dr. Christopher Watts of The National Archives in the U.K. Check for details at www.members.shaw.ca/nfhs   

The Nanaimo Family History Society have purchased BC Vital Events microfiches. Why go to Victoria when they are available in Nanaimo. Details on their website at www.members.shaw.ca/nfhs 

Mailing Lists are sometimes a useful adjunct to your research and you may also be able to contribute information yourself.
