Goodner Cemetery, Montgomery County, Arkansas
Montgomery Co. ARGenWeb Project

An old cemtery on private property that someone is now maintaining by mowing the grass and fenced the area.

Location: On private property. From Oden, cross the bridge, turn right at first fork, Southside Road, go three miles.  Doris Laird's farmhouse on the right side of road with the goats and a barn is across the paved road with the cemetery to the right of the barn.  In 1978 this was the Austin Powell farm. The tall headstones can be seen from the road. If you pass the south fork of Shirley Creek and reach gravel you have gone to far. The area is fenced with a gate and the grass is cut. At least nine headstones are broken. Forty four obvious graves but maybe as many as seventy-five buried here. Oldest marked grave 1860. Who else is buried here? If you know please contact Olwyn.

This is Lizey Goodner's grave. Unusual in that the cement work appears homemade, above ground with the headstone added at a later date. Under the shade of an old oak tree. David's is the broken headstone.
