I am seeking information on John Frederick LEHMAN. He is reported to have been a potter in Randolph County in the 1850's. A couple of years ago a figural jug produced by him was featured on Antiques Roadshow, Miami episode. The jug subsequently sold at auction for around $80,000 (including broker fee). This jug is one of only two known to exist, with the second jug being in the collection of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA. I am a direct descendent of John Frederick LEHMAN, and would appreciate any information. Family history has him born in Baden, Germany, but this is unconfirmed. It is possible he may have come to Alabama from Germany by way of Pennsylvania.

I am looking for my grandfather Frank BEHNKE, and his family who were in Alabama in 1918. I have pictures of them in front of their restaurant "The Michigan Cafe" in a building that has the name "Roanoke Hotel" on it. I am hoping this may be where they were at that time as the picture and a WW1 draft registration for my uncle that states his mother lives in "Ala", but doesn't have her P.O. Address. Their name was BEHNKE and at the time the picture was taken, just 2 of their children (Milly & Kate) were with them and the whole family worked in the restaurant. If anyone has any knowledge or remembrance of this hotel or restaurant, I would be very appreciative if you would email me.

Am looking for information about the Confederate service of C.T. CARDER (or it may have been incorrectly written as CARTER). His full name was Cicero T. Carder. We want to put his name on the new Confederate monument in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, and cannot find record of his service. He was 2 years old in the 1850 census of Heard County, Georgia. His father, John W. CARDER (CARTER), moved the family into Randolph County, Alabama, where one of C.T.'s brothers (Randolph Lavoy CARDER) served in the 13th Alabama Infantry. In 1867 or 1869, they moved to Texas, probably Wolfe City. In 1889, C.T. CARDER moved into Wynnewood, I.T., and he is buried in Oaklawn Cemetery here in Wynnewood, Okla. (the monument website: www.rootsweb.com/~okgarvin/wynnewoodconfederate.html) Please e-mail me if you know anything about these Carders that would be helpful. Thanks! Michael Grissom

I am researching my great great grandmother Arnettis E M Jordan. She is the daughter of Andrew D. and Elisabeth Jordan. Andrew is from South Carolina 1824 and Elisabeth is from Georgia. They lived and had children in Randolph County, Alabama. They moved to Montgomery County, Arkansas. Arnettis married William G. Bates in 1872. They had four boys. Andrew Jefferson Bates, William Alton Bates, James Mcduffy Bates and a son born in 1880. In 1880 they moved to Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas. Here parents and a sister Mary Jane (lovejoy)also were in Wood County, Texas. Andrew and Elisabeth died in Winnsboro. I think Arnettis is buried there as well - i have no proof on this just yet. However, William had remarried to Jackie Mitchell. I wonder if Mcduffy is the last name of Elisabeth? Anyone who might have info let me know.

TURNER,BROOKS,VAUGHAN I am trying to find any info on any Turners that lived in Randolph County, maybe Bacon Level. In my research this place has come up in connection with Texas commutity, Heard County Georgia. Copeland B.Turner born 1839 in Al. married Georgia A. Brooks born 1842. Their children William Britton { my gggfather]Lucy N, Samuel B., Jessie Brook,Thomas N., Susan, John A., Mary. I hope this is the right family to go with my William Britton Turner. William Britton Turner's family. [Which I do know is correct} he married Eva Tabitha Jones, 04 Dec 1881, Texas, Heard couty Georgia. Their children, Robert Moses Turner married Belle Bussey, Mattie, Roy, Gracie, Tom, Carl, Howard, Ailiss or Bailiss Turner whom I was told was to have been adopted out to either cassells, or caswells. This is as far as my info goes into backtracking. The Vaughan line comes in when Robert Moses Turners daughter Opal L. Turner Married Jeptha Amos Vaughan in Heard county Georgia. I can't seem to find any Turner's to connect. Thank you & I am so sorry this is long.

Lucy A. MICKLE married Joseph/Josephas HOWE on 09 Mar 1876 in probably Roanoke, Randolph Co., AL. A family record states that Lucy A. MICKLE was born 10 Jul 1855 in AL. I'm trying to find her parents and siblings. She is my g.grandmother. Lucy and Joseph HOWE lived in Chambers Co., AL, where my grandmother and her siblings were born. On the 1860 Roanoke, Randolph Co., AL Census, I saw one MICKLE family living in Roanoke. That was the Thomas F. MICKLE family. Their daughter, Elizabeth, was listed as age 2 at that time. That is about the right age to figure as Lucy. My grandmother named her first daughter Lucy Elizabeth. Does anyone have any information on my Lucy A. MICKLE and her family?

PIKE, SHIREY. My ancestor John Shirey (Shirah) b. abt. 1775 married Appalonia (last name unknown) abt. 1797 in South Carolina. Their son John Shirey b. 1810 in South Carolina and died bef. 1880 in Randolph County, Alabama. He married Nancy Pike Nov. 23, 1843. Nancy was born 1829 in Georgia. I know they went to Randolph County about 1859 but the census records are very difficult to read--even in the original book which I looked at about 1967. The Pikes also went to Randolph County after the 1840 Georgia census and (apparently) before the 1850 Georgia census. I suspect that Nancy Pike's father was Ezekiel Pike. The Shireys stayed in Randolph County at least until after 1883 when my grandmother Lena Jane Shirey was born at Rock Mills. Some time after 1883 Lena's father Silus Jefferson Shirey moved to Heard County, Georgia where he died (1922) and is buried in the Centralhatchee Cemetery. If anyone has any information on Pikes and Shireys in Randolph County I would be interested in sharing information on their ancestors.

I am looking for information about my great-great grandparent, Jacob LEWIS and Sara Jane SHEPPARD LEWIS. The spelling of LEWIS was changed to LOUIS after they were is Texas a short time. We find Jacob and Sara in Randolph County Alabama in the 1860 Census. They were in the Rock Mill Post Office area. At that time they had four children. Documents and Jacob's application for pension indicate he joined the 59th Alabama Infantry Regiment in the Spring of 1862. He was at the surrender at Appomattox. Sara, in an application for pension, said Jacob was in a hospital in Coweta County Georgia for a short time after the war. They came to Texas in 1866. Jacob indicated in Census records and other documents that he was born in Stewart County Georgia in 1831. We think his father died when Jacob was young. One cousin remembers hearing our grandfather say Jacob's mother's name was Lavinia, and called Vinie. Same cousin thinks grandfather also said she was remarried to a WILLIAMS.
