CONVENTION OF ALBERTA BAPTISTS.    

Church Union and Religious Teaching to Be Discussed To-day.

Ponoka, June 9.-- The eleventh annual meeting of the Alberta Baptist Association opened here on Tuesday evening, at which the following ministers were present:  Rev. C. C. McLaurin, Calgary, superintendent for Alberta;  Revs. Henry F. Widen, Bright View; C. M. Widen, Duhamel; Norman Burke, G. Carlson, Adolph Beattie, Wetaskiwin; A. Paulson, Camrose; F. W. Patterson, Edmonton; H. L. Kempton, Vermillion; W. Ritzen, Battle River; H. S. Sneyd, Abraham Hager, Edmonton; Alexander McDonald, Leduc; A. J. Milton, Stoney Plain; William Reid, Lethbridge; J. E. Tiner, Olds; J. C. Bowen, Strathcona; D. Dack, Calgary; Rev. Professor Mode, Brandon; B. Goodfield, Red Deer; D. A. Gunn, Calgary; James Smith, Nanton. A large number of lay delegates were present from every part of the province.
Tuesday evening's session was taken up with very interesting addresses by Rev. B. B. Harkness on mission finance; the problem of getting and spending,  and Rev. F. W. Patterson on Christianity and the Family.
Mr. Harkness emphasized the importance of system in every part of giving and spending money for missions, and outlined a plan of estimated receipts and expenditures for the ensuing year, the estimate amount was $78,000.
Mr. Paterson emphasized the importance of the home in the upbuilding of a nation. If the children are safeguarded, he said, the nation is safe.

The Election of Officers.

The Wednesday morning's session was taken up with the Association sermon by Rev. D. Dack, of Calgary, and by the reception of reports and  the election of officers for the ensuing year. The following officers were elected: Moderator, Rev. F. W. Patterson; vice-Moderator, Rev. A. Baettig; secretary-treasurer, A. W. Ward, Calgary; district secretaries, Revs. H. L. Kempton, Vermilion; J. C. Bowen, Strathcona; B. Goodfield, Red Deer; H. Bryant, Medicine Hat; T. J. Bennett, Calgary; W. Reid, Lethbridge. Executive committee: A. Paulson, Camrose; T. Underwood, A. C. Newcombe, Calgary; Charles Grant, Edmonton; A. D. McConnell, Hawkeye; O. B. Stockford, Okotoks B. Y. P. A.; secretary, W. Reid; Sunday school secretary, H. S. Sneyd.

The Work of the Year.

The secretary gave a synopsis of the work of the different departments of the church, showing that 36 churches had reported out of a possible 50; total membership 2427; baptisms during the year 180. Edmonton First Baptist Church led with 30 baptisms; Heath, East Calgary, second with 28, and Medicine Hat third with 26.
The mission circle reported a membership of 252; Mission band, 165; B. Y. P. A. , 547. There are 2,163 scholars registered in the Baptist Sunday schools of the association, with an average attendance of 1,477.

The Financial Report.

The treasurer's report showed a satisfactory increase in the amount of monies raised during the year by the different department of church work. The following is a statement of the amounts raised during the year:

Mr. H. A. Ballantyne, secretary of the Y.M.C.A. of calgary, delivered an address Wednesday evening on the Laymen's Missionary Movement; and Professor Mode, of Brandon, on Education and Leadership.
