Tobacco Garden
This was a rural post office established December 22, 1906 with Rev. Peder
G. Arnstad (1871)-1948) as pm. Rev. Arnstad, a Lutheran minister, was born
in Norway and came here from MN in 1905. The post office was located
in N 1/2 Sec.10-151-98, Garden Twp., eight miles NNE of Watford City, and
named for a nearby creek and boat landing at the creeks mouth. Preliminary
application forms show this post office as Garden, but postal officials
apparently ignored the one-word tadition and allowed the two-word historic
place name to be used. The post office closed October 31, 1916 with
mail to
Schafer.
