The Jay County Genealogical Society was formed to further genealogical interest and research in Jay County. The offices of the society tries to maintain regular hours (contact the society for hours of operation). The offices contain Jay county history books, some records, family histories, maps, some newspapers on microfilm. The society publishes a newsletter 6 times a year. Membership fees are $10.00 per year per household. Membership runs one year from the date you purchase it.
The Offices are located at 109 So Commerce , Portland, IN. The office is open Mon - Fri 10: a.m. 10:00- 4:00 p.m.The office may also be open by appointment.
The Jay County Genealogy Society will answer queries for members for the cost of copies (10 cents each) plus postage. If you are not a member, they will charge $10 plus copy costs and postage. You can choose to join at the same time as you ask for a query and save money on all the rest of your queries!
The
Jay County Genealogy Society will be taking pictures of tombstones in Jay Co. by
request as a way of raising money for the Genealogy Society. For a fee of
$25.00, they will place flowers at the grave of your ancestor, take a photo, and
send you the photo. They will photo additional stones in the same cemetery
for $15.00 each. Send the name of your ancestor and the name of the
graveyard they are in along with your check and an S.A.S.E to the Jay Co.

Salamonia, Jay Co, IN and Trinity Lutheran Church, Ft Recovery, OH.
The book is in three volumes, with 450 plus pages. There is
also included a history of the churches including pictures of all the pastors
and of some of the charter church members. The book includes baptism,
confirmation, communion, family, death, and marriage records. The records
prior to 1900-1910 were in German and so were translated to English for this
book. Author: Phyllis Strock Franklin.

Boundary Cemetery Book: This is a new item which was just completed by Kathy Selman. She did a wonderful job with this book. The book includes a picture of every tombstone in the cemetery, as well as transcriptions of the tombstones. Additionally, approximately 100 obituaries were found for folks buried there and are included in the book.
