The Grande Prairie & District Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society was formed in February, 1978.

We have a number of activities and services which are of benefit to our members and also to the community as a whole.  Some of the Grande Prairie & District Branch activities include:

Monthly Meetings in the Spencer Room of the Grande Prairie Public Library at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month (Jan - Jun, Sep - Nov). A program of genealogical interest follows a brief business meeting. Everyone is welcome.
Memberships - Membership runs from Jan 1 to Dec 31 each year. Membership Information and Form
"Genies in the Library" is a program offered jointly by the Branch and the Grande Prairie Public Library. The "Genies" are available in the Isabel Campbell Room at the Grande Prairie Public Library on Wednesday evenings 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The "Genies" provide assistance to people interested in genealogical research. The "Genies" will not do research for the person, but will do their best to demonstrate the proper procedures and suggest resources.
"Obituary Indexes" - see below
Cemetery Recordings - This is an on-going project by all the branches of the Alberta Genealogical Society to collect and publish Cemetery Records in Alberta. The branch has an index for the cemeteries that have already been recorded.
Publication - A quarterly newsletter called Heritage Seekers is published. It features extracts and information from historical sources in the Peace Country, genealogical information and brief biographies on members and their research. This is available to all members. Institutions may obtain copies of Heritage Seekers for an annual subscription fee of $10.00. Back Issues of the newsletter may be viewed below.
Library Collection - Our collection is housed in the Isabel Campbell room of the Grande Prairie Public Library. It is open to members and the public the same hours as the Grande Prairie Public Library. The Library Collection is for reference only and does not circulate. It consists of books, microforms, and periodicals. We have a collection of periodicals from over 40 genealogical societies as well as continuing subscriptions to Genealogical Helper, Family Tree Magazine and Family History News.
Canadian Census - The Branch has purchased and made available in the Grande Prairie Public Library the 1871, 1881, 1891, and 1901 Canadian census on microfilm. This is for use in the library only. Several Indexes to the Census are available in our library collection.
Our "Researchers Group" will undertake limited genealogical research through local resources. A minimum donation of $10.00 per name is requested for this service. There may also be a charge for copying and postage.
