History of Pierce County - 3 Volume Set by W.P. Bonney
              US$168.00

The Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical Society is proud to announce re-publication of William P. Bonney's History of Pierce County. Here is the opportunity for you to obtain Bonney's definitive three-volume history. Published in 1927, the original set has long been in the rare book category and virtually unobtainable.

W.P. Bonney's authoritative History of Pierce County has become a collector's item. Out of print for many years, his history has recently sold for as much as $600 a set. Now The Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical Society has arranged for re-publication of the original complete with every word of the text and lavishly illustrated with more than 100 early-day photographs. Plus, as an extra bonus, a complete index listing every one of the thousands of Pierce County residents whose names appear in the text, as well as a complete topical index. Beautifully printed and handsomely bound in library buckram, richly stamped in gold, this will be one of your most prized literary treasures.

Bonney's credentials are impressive. He was born in Steilacoom in 1856 when his family fled there for safety during the Indian Wars. His family crossed the plains in 1852 and his mother taught the first school in Steilacoom in 1854. He served for many years as secretary of the Washington State Historical Society and as curator of the Ferry Museum (now Washington State Historical Museum).

His history ranges from the founding of Fort Nisqually in 1833 by the Hudson's Bay Company to the bootleg days of the 'twenties. He tells of the 1841 Wilkes Expedition, the Indian Wars of 1855-1856, the hanging of Chief Leschi, coming of the railroad, expulsion of the Chinese, and all of the other events which constitute the fascinating history of this area.

The founding of county towns and cities is reviewed, including Puyallup, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, South Prairie, Buckley, Eatonville, and many others. Early donation claims are listed. Names of pioneers and prominent men around in the third or biographical volume with over 600 biographies and many photographs of individuals. Anyone with "roots" in Pierce County will find these volumes of special and personal interest.
