Caldwell County was created from Gonzales County 6 March 1848.
The county seat is located at Lockhart
which celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2002.
Vital records are available on microfilm through your local lending library --or--
from the Caldwell County Clerk, P.O. Box 906, Lockhart, TX 78644;
however many records are available in the
Historical Research Center maintained by the Caldwell County Genealogical and Historical Society.

The Historical Research Center has a growing collection of vertical files, ancestor charts and books about people and events in the county and the various communities, including many church and/or cemetery records and family histories. Volunteers are in the HRC daily to assist researchers.

Caldwell County Historical Commission, Lockhart -- The Caldwell Historical Museum is found in the old Caldwell County Jail which is located on East Market Street just east of Hwy. 183 in Lockhart. Hours of operation are from 1 or 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a docent who is paid to be there during those hours. The museum is operated by the Caldwell County Historical Commission.
