The Census - for free and from home.

View the U.S. Census for free and from home with a Multnomah County Library Card.  If you do not live in Multnomah County, ask if you qualify for a free library card or the cost for non-residents.  

1. Go to http://www.multcolib.org.

2. Click Electronic Resources.

3. Click Genealogy.

4. Click the purple card next to HeritageQuest Online .  See figure 1.

5. Type your Multnomah Count Library Card number and click Login.

6. Click Search Census.

7. Choose Search or Browse in the upper left of the screen (see figure 2).

Search:  Years 1890, 1900, 1810, 1820, 1890 and 1910.Go right to the image you want by typing in the Name and Year.

Browse: Additional Years including 1930. You must enter the State, City, and Ward.

8. Census Templates will help you see the small headings on  census images. You will need an Acrobat Reader.
