3. The poor economic state of Scotland after the Napoleonic War - government assisted emigrants were given land grants
4. The poor economic state, the crime, and hunger in Ireland - government assisted emigrants were given land grants
5. The French (Quebec) were looking for employment
6. Independent settlers looking for a better life, to be a minister, to be a school teacher
