Union County Births

Most people, at some point in their life, are asked for a copy of their birth certificate to serve as proof of identity for a driver's license, passport, Social Security, or family history.  Until 1909, Ohio did not require formal documentation of births.  Beginning in the early 1940s, many individuals born prior to 1909 filed a late registration of birth at the county Probate Court.  The filings include evidence presented with the application, and many of these records contain valuable genealogical information.  This type of record is referred to as "late registration of birth."  Filed along with the late registrations are corrections (misspellings, etc.) to the birth records.

The following is an index of both late registrations of birth and birth record corrections from the Union County Probate Court.
