Dennis J. McCarthy was the brother of Catherine McCarthy McCarthy, my great grandmother. The 1865 marriage record at Holy Family Church, Auburn, NY for Catherine McCarthy and Dennis McCarthy lists the parents of Catherine McCarthy as Felix McCarthy & Margaret Hourigan.
Dennis J. McCarthy was born in Mar 1839 in Ireland and died on Jan 12, 1909 in Syracuse, NY. On his Death Certificate, his parents were listed as Felix & Margaret McCarthy. Dennis J.'s niece Mary P. McCarthy, the daughter of Dennis & Catherine McCarthy from Auburn, was the secretary of Flora Bernice Smith in Syracuse, NY. Flora Bernice's Will referenced Mary P. McCarthy as the cousin of Monsignor Jeremiah McCarthy of Syracuse. Monsignor Jeremiah was the grandson of Dennis J McCarthy.
Dennis J. enrolled on Nov 13, 1862 at Cape Vincent, NY. He signed up for 3 years and his 'MPIR' was on Dec 16, 1862 in New York City according to the 10 H Art'y, NY Company Muster Roll signed by J. M. Fanly in Dec 1862.

Syracuse. In 1900 he was at the VA Hospital, Bath, NY. The 1900 NY
Census
gave his birth as March 1839 and said that he came to the USA in 1856.
His death notice mentioned that he belonged to Branch 50 of the CMBA.
At
the time of his death he was 69 and living at 811 West Fayette. He was
buried on Jan 15, 1909 at St Agnes Cemetery from St Lucy Church,
Syracuse,
NY.
In Feb 1868, Rev. Smith from Baldwinsville, NY married Dennis J. McCarthy and Ellen Donovan. Their wedding attendants were Simeon Ioset & his wife Margaret Donovan, Ellen's sister. Ellen Donovan was born in Mar 1845 in Ireland and died at on April 14, 1917 in Syracuse, NY at age 72. In the 1900 Census she stated that she came to US in 1865.
Ellen Donovan McCarthy's sister Mary Donovan Horrigan was the grandmother of Monsignor Francis Horrigan, the 'pastor of the valley'.
Dennis J McCarthy and his wife Ellen Donovan had 7 children who were all born in Syracuse: John J., Jeremiah F., Dennis who died at birth, Dennis R., Margaret P., Charles and Thomas J.

Dennis R McCarthy [born on Sept 13,1873 and died on May 25,1943] married 'Sally' (Sarah Marie Carey [who died on Jan19, 1968]). They had one child, Rev. Francis Dennis McCarthy, ordained May 18, 1940.
