This method requires no setup. It is, however, quite time consuming if you have to type many of the special characters and you must memorize several "longish" numbers. Use this method if you very seldom use the special characters. If you need them on a daily basis, and you probably will, use Method #2. A few minutes of setup time saves a lot of work in the future.

Put the NUM Lock On.
Hold down the Alt Key and type the numbers on the Number Pad:

Alt 0216 = Ø          Alt 0229 = å          Alt 0214 = Ö
Alt 0246 = ö          Alt 0197 = Å         Alt 0248 = ø
Alt 0198 = Æ          Alt 0230 = æ

Here are some other characters you can make: ALT needs to be held down with all of these!

Method # Two: (The Add a Norwegian Keyboard Method...)

Following a few simple steps, you can "add" a Norwegian keyboard to Windows. Once you have done that, you will have a small icon in your System Tray that will change some of your punctuation keys to make the Norwegian characters. You change back and forth by clicking the icon or using the Shift + Alt keys together. This method is much quicker than the Alt + Number method and doesn't require memorizing so many numbers

1- Click "Start / Settings / Control Panel". Find "Keyboard" and double-click the icon.

2- Click the "Language" tab. See that the "Switch Languages" section has a dot beside the "Left Alt+Shift" and that the "Enable Indicator on Taskbar" is checked.

3- Click the "Add..." button. Click the little "down arrow" beside Afrikaans and scroll down to "Norwegian (Nynorsk)" and click on it. Click OK, Click OK. Depending on how your version of Windows was installed, you may be asked for your Windows CD.

Now if you click on your new blue icon in your System Tray (beside the time), you can select the "No - Norwegian (Nynorsk)" keyboard.
Pressing the LEFT ALT+SHIFT keys together will also toggle between English and Norwegian.

When you type the following punctuation keys the Norwegian characters are:

[   =   å          {   =   Å
;   =   ø          :   =   Ø
'   =   æ         "   =   Æ

Method # Three:  Allchars Freeware
Allchars - it is a great "freeware" program and resides in the background on start up of your computer.  Best of all, you don't have to remember all those alt+ numbers!  For ø, you just hit the CTRL key, then the "o" and then the "/" or vice versa.
