I am researching BURTON. THOMAS BURTON appears on the 1810 PERSON Co. census. WILLIAM HARRISON BURTON was son of THOMAS and HARRIETT BURTON. He was born 15 May 1817 in North Carolina d. Pittsylvania Co., VA. There is a Thomas Burton who appears 1797-1804 on the Pittsylvania Co. tax records and then disappears. Would like to find where THOMAS BURTON went and came from. WARREN - STANFIELD - JOHNSTON
I am currently working on my father's fraternal line. We descend from one JEREMIAH WARREN who m. 12-12-1786 in Halifax Co., VA to MARY "Molly" STANFIELD. Her father was THOMAS STANFIELD who died in 1797 Halifax Co., VA and shortly afterward Jeremiah also died - end of 1797. Molly remarried to JOHN JOHNSTON in 12-4-1798 in NC (have m. date but no county).
Jeremiah & Molly had 2 sons: William Harrison and Jeremiah Stanfield Warren (the latter is my ancestor). John & Molly brought the 2 boys to Elbert Co., GA after @1802. John & Molly had at least 5 children.
Have some of the estate papers on Jeremiah, but not all the info for when the land was disposed of. Molly filed for DOWER on 122-1/2 ac. in Person. Have found record in Elbert Co., GA signed by John & Molly releasing her DOWER to that same property back in NC - giving it to the sons. Who bought or received that land located on CAIN CREEK in Person Co., NC? Would love to hear from any others researching these families.

I am researching the John Turner family in Person County. He was married to Elizabeth DILLARD and was a Rev War Vet. John and Elizabeth came to NC abt 1779 when their second child was born. John owned land on Little Bewing Creek in Person Co, NC as early as 1793. He sold land on Blue Wing Creek to Stephen Jones on Sep 12, 1804 for two hundred pounds. According to pay vouchers in the Treasurer's Office in the NC state archives, John was on an expedition against the Chicamauga Indians into middle Tennessee in 1787. After the sale of the land in Person Co, John went to Halifax Co, Va and on to Dickson Co, TN. I would like to connect to others connected to this line.

BRECHEEN/BURKEEN I am searching for the origin and additional information on William Brecheen, b. 1750-5, who is found in Caswell (later Person) Co., NC, records before immigrating with a large family to Bedford Co., TN, before 1830, when he is enumerated on the Census there. He apparently d. prior to 1840, when the family scatters throughout West TN. Of several possible children is David C. Brecheen (later spelled Burkeen), b. ca. 1780, who is found in Maury (later Marshall) Co., TN, before removing to Calloway (later Marshall) Co., KY, where he d. ca. 1843-4. Family name is variously mispelled, ie. Brackeen, Bratcheen, Brechen, etc., although Calloway Co., KY descendants use the variant Burkeen.

Trying to locate anything on Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" DAVIE who was born in Person Co., NC c. 1818. She later lived in Christian Co., KY, married 1st John GARRISON, 2nd Alexander FINCH. One child by the second marriage was named ASHBOURN, and I have found an ASHBOURNE DAVIE in KY and there are several other DAVIE in KY who came from NC. I am looking for any information relating to a Mary Ann Driver (b1820) and/or Thomas W. Wrenn.

They are supposed to have been married in Person County in about 1838. They are my matermal great-great grandparents. Mary Ann's obituary was printed in the Durham, North Carolina paper in 1892 and said she is buried in the Cheek Creek Graveyard about two miles east of Durham. She is said to have had a brother James T. "Thomas" Driver who was married to Mary Sneed in Person County 8/20/1851. Driver Street in Roxboro is said to be named after Thomas Driver. Any information anyone has on any of these persons would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested on any persons from NC with the surnames of Driver, Wrenn or Richardson.

Researching my ancestors including Edmund Dillehay who left Roxboro, Nash Dist. of Person Co. for a land grant in Tennessee. Ending up in Smith Co. Tenn. 1820. Wife Joannah Asher from NC. His brother John G. Dillehay was early tobacco manufacturer in Roxboro and later Civil War Hero. His statue is on the courthouse square I believe. Specifically interested in Bethel Hill Church early history. Cemetary location of early Dillehay farm/homesite and any photos.
Will share Dillehay research I have, including the "Delahaye" surname origins in France and their arrive as French Hugenots to Maryland in 1617.

John Elmer FERGES was born in 1797 in Virginia. On February 11, 1820, he married Sarah Elmore GREEN in Person County, NC. Sarah had a brother, Elmore GREEN and a sister Nancy, who married Nathaniel COX. At the time of Sarah's marriage, she was living with an Aunt McGEE in North Carolina about 18 miles from where John Elmer FERGES lived in VA.

Any info about the surnames FERGES, GREEN, COX, or McGEE would be appreciated.

I'm doing research on David BOYD. It is believed that he was born in Person Co., NC in 1781. He married Jane GUYNN in NC sometime prior to 1809. They migrated to Christian Co., KY prior to 1820. Any information on the BOYDs or GUYNNs would be appreciated.

I am including this query in order to have at least one on this page! This is not a particularly well formulated query -- I will work on it when I have more time!

I have extensive information on this line beginning with my g-g-g-gf, Solomon CLAYTON, Sr, d:1849. Married Frances Carver in 1806. Nine children. If you share an interest in any of the following, send me a note and I will be pleased to share with you.

Seven of my g-g-grandfathers brothers and sisters moved from Person County, NC to Western Kentucky during the period ranging from about 1840 to 1855. All married in Person Co, NC and many had children before they left NC. At least a few CLAYTONs from related families had preceded these brothers and sisters. Many other related families from Person County also made the move to KY (Tapp, Winstead). Apparently parents, in-laws, brothers-in- law, and sisters-in-law also moved in many of the families.
