About the Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society

Our History

The Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society, a nonprofit organization, was organized in 1953, to assist its members in tracing and recording their family history.

The Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society received the Award for Achievement at the 1993 National Genealogical Society Conference in the States, held in Baltimore, MD. The National Awards Program was established to recognize excellence, scholarship, and achievement in the field of genealogy. The Award for Achievement: Organization, is an award for a nonprofit genealogical or historical organization in recognition of exceptional contributions to the field of genealogy, resulting in significantly aiding research or furthering an interest in genealogy.
